Position Purpose
The Administrative Assistant provides administrative and communications support to the Pastor, staff, and congregation of First Presbyterian Church of Muskegon. This position helps ensure the church's day-to-day operations are organized, timely, welcoming, and consistent with the mission of the church. The Administrative Assistant serves as an important point of connection between church leadership, members, visitors, and community organizations.
Position Summary
The Administrative Assistant role requires strong organization and communication skills, attention to detail, creativity, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and projects throughout the week.
Half of this role is administrative, and the other half is creative. The right person will be just as comfortable keeping accurate records as they are creating content for emails, newsletters, and social media posts. Regular responsibilities include answering the phone, filing records, preparing bulletins and slides for weekly worship services, managing the church calendar, creating promotional materials, and more.
Hours
The Administrative Assistant will work an average of 20 hours per week, generally Monday to Thursdays, from 9:00 a.m. until early afternoon.
Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent is required. A business background is desired.
This position requires very strong computer skills. At minimum, applicants should be familiar with Microsoft Office, Google Applications, and other online tools and platforms (e.g. Canva, Facebook, Instagram, Planning Center, Realm). Applicants should also be able to learn new software and programs quickly. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, highly organized, and have a warm and welcoming personality. Because this position has an emphasis on communication (i.e. creating worship slides, church newsletters, social media posts, and more), creativity and basic skills in design and social media are essential.
