JOB SUMMARY
FPDS is seeking a dependable and enthusiastic Part-Time Physical Education Teacher to support the Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director in the daily operation of the school’s physical education program. This role is focused on assisting with the planning, setup, supervision, and execution of PE classes during the school day. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children, value teamwork, and be committed to fostering a safe, engaging, and Christ-centered physical education environment. This position does not include parent communication or extracurricular coaching responsibilities.
JOB TYPE, SUPERVISION AND REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This is a part-time position during the normal school year, August through May.
Work hours are Monday–Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (5.5 hours per day).
The position reports directly to the Athletic Director and works closely with the Assistant Athletic Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Focus
Reflect the overarching purpose of the school—to honor Christ—in all interactions with students and staff. Support and reinforce the school’s Christian values through encouragement, respect, teamwork, and positive role modeling during physical education activities.
Physical Education Support (All Grades)
- Assist the Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director in delivering daily PE classes.
- Help set up, organize, and break down equipment for PE activities.
- Supervise and engage students during physical education classes to ensure a safe and positive environment.
- Reinforce rules, expectations, and proper use of equipment.
Support instruction in basic skills, rules, and strategies for a variety of age-appropriate sports and activities. - Encourage participation, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude toward physical activity.
- Assist in adapting activities to accommodate varying ability levels and developmental needs of students.
Safety & Equipment
- Assist in ensuring all safety protocols are followed during physical activities.
- Help monitor student behavior and safety during PE classes.
- Support the care, storage, and organization of athletic and PE equipment.
- Communicate equipment needs or concerns to the Athletic Director or Assistant Athletic Director.
Collaboration & Support
- Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, and school staff.
- Provide general support for PE programming and special in-school athletic activities as needed.
- Maintain flexibility and a team-oriented attitude in supporting daily PE operations
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
At least once each year the Athletic Director will provide an assessment of the performance of the PE Teacher’s responsibilities and conformity with the personal qualities of the job, as stated above. The assessment will identify areas of excellence, areas needing improvement, and progress on previously identified areas needing improvement. The results of the AD’s assessment will be shared with the PE Teacher as well as filed in the PE Teacher’s performance file.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The PE Teacher will be offered an annual salary, payable in 12 equal monthly installments on the last day of each month. Additionally, all FPDS employees with children in school through Grade 6 are required to enroll them in FPDS. Exceptions are made for children enrolled in public school or being cared for by family members. FPDS offers a substantial tuition discount for each child.

REQUIRED PERSONAL QUALITIES
- Christian faith and daily walk: Have received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, is a professing Christian, and is living out their faith on a daily basis. Believe and practice the Bible as God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living. Be in whole-hearted agreement with FPDS’s “Statement of Faith and Christian Philosophy of Education”. Be a member in good standing at a local, evangelical church.
- Christian character: Have the spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to lead by example, modeling Christ-like behavior and providing spiritual guidance to staff and children. Demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, humility, gratitude, kindness, gentleness, self-control, teachability, perseverance, and punctuality.
- Christian behavior: Use acceptable English in written and oral communication. Avoid offensive language. Maintain a personal appearance that is a Christian role model and conforms with the school dress code policy for employees.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Experience working with children in a school, athletic, or recreational setting preferred.
- Background or interest in physical education, athletics, coaching, or child development is a plus.
- Ability to manage groups of students and maintain structure and engagement.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, encouraging demeanor.
- Excellent communication when explaining instructions and leadership skills when managing sport activities.
- Physical health, stamina and agility required to confidently coach, demonstrate, and participate in sports included in the FPDS program.
