JOB SUMMARY
The Part-Time Director of Local Outreach serves under the direction of the Minister of Missions to develop, coordinate, and strengthen the church’s local outreach, evangelism, and mercy ministry efforts. This role focuses on mobilizing the congregation for gospel-centered service and outreach, cultivating relationships with ministry partners, and creating meaningful opportunities for members to engage the local community through evangelism, mercy ministry, and service initiatives.
The Director of Local Outreach works closely with the Mission and Outreach Committee, the Outreach Team, church staff, ministry leaders, deacons, and local ministry partners to foster congregational involvement and expand the church’s outreach presence in the community. This position is highly relational and community-facing, requiring significant time spent leading teams, building participation, and strengthening relationships both within the church and throughout the community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach Leadership & Congregational Engagement
- Develop and implement effective local outreach, evangelism, and mercy ministry initiatives consistent with the mission and vision of the church.
- Maintain strong relationships with local ministry partners and facilitate meaningful connections between ministry partners and the congregation.
- Work alongside the Communications Department to keep the congregation informed and engaged regarding local outreach ministries, opportunities, and initiatives supported by the church.
- Mobilize and encourage congregational participation in evangelism, local outreach, mercy ministry, and service opportunities.
- Provide guidance, leadership, and resources to ministry leaders as they incorporate service and outreach into their ministry programming.
- Serve as a resource person for the Mission and Outreach Committee and relevant subcommittees while assisting in the implementation of approved plans and programs.
Ministry Program Leadership
- Provide direction and oversight for Families Count, including volunteer recruitment, organization, training, and relationship-building efforts with participating families beyond the classroom setting.
- Provide leadership, coordination, guidance, and resources for Serve Week, Carols at Belhaven Town Center, and other regular outreach initiatives and community events.
- Support outreach efforts connected to Music of Christmas, Christmas Eve services, Easter services, local mission trips, and other seasonal or churchwide ministry opportunities.
Administrative & Collaborative Responsibilities
- Prepare ministry budgets and reports as requested.
- Participate in weekly departmental and church-wide staff meetings on Tuesday mornings.
- Participate in MOCOMM and Outreach Team Meetings.
- Maintain strong collaboration and communication with church staff, ministry leaders, women’s leadership council, volunteers, and ministry partners.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Minister, Executive Minister, Minister of Missions, Session, or church committees.
Possible Additional Responsibilities
- Teach and develop evangelism training curriculum and recruit congregational participation in outreach initiatives.
- Maintain active participation and presence in various ministry groups and peer communities to foster relationships and develop outreach connections.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Part-time position averaging approximately 25 hours per week.
- Required office presence on Tuesday mornings for departmental and staff-wide meetings.
- Work hours will be a mix of time in the office and significant time spent outside the office leading teams, cultivating relationships, engaging ministry partners, and strengthening congregational participation in outreach ministries.
- Reports directly to the Minister of Missions and works in coordination with the Mission and Outreach Committee and Outreach Team.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The Director of Local Outreach is offered an annual salary, payable in 26 equal bi-weekly installments.

- A growing and mature Christian faith with a heart for evangelism, mercy ministry, and reaching the lost.
- Experience in ministry leadership, outreach coordination, volunteer mobilization, or related ministry work.
- Strong relational, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to lead, encourage, and disciple volunteers and ministry participants.
- Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and strengthen community relationships.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, committees, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication and accountability.
- Must be, or be willing to become, a member of First Presbyterian Church.
