JOB SUMMARY
First Presbyterian Church is seeking a dependable and attentive Part-Time Weekend Overnight Security Officer to help provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for church staff, members, guests, and facilities. This position serves as an armed security presence for the church campus during the overnight weekend hours and is responsible for monitoring church property, conducting security patrols, responding to incidents, and assisting with overnight building oversight during weekend hours.
The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, maturity, restraint, and a ministry-minded presence while balancing security responsibilities with hospitality and respect for others.
This is a part-time position scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patrol church buildings, parking lots, and surrounding property to ensure safety and security.
- Monitor facilities for suspicious activity, hazards, vandalism, theft, or unauthorized access.
- Maintain a visible armed security presence throughout the campus during overnight hours.
- Carry and maintain authorized firearm and security equipment in accordance with church policy and applicable laws.
- Respond appropriately to security threats, emergencies, suspicious activity, alarms, medical incidents, or facility concerns while prioritizing safety and communication.
- Exercise appropriate judgment, professionalism, and de-escalation techniques in potentially dangerous or confrontational situations.
- Lock and unlock facilities according to established schedules and security procedures.
- Assist visitors, staff, vendors, or emergency personnel as needed.
- Enforce church safety policies and facility guidelines in a professional and courteous manner.
- Monitor and secure entrances, exits, gates, and restricted-access areas.
- Conduct routine checks of church property, including buildings, sidewalks, parking areas, and equipment.
- Report security concerns, emergencies, maintenance issues, and incidents promptly and accurately.
- Complete incident reports and communicate relevant information to church leadership and staff.
- Assist with basic overnight operational support as requested.
- Help ensure the campus remains clean, orderly, and secure throughout the shift.
- Maintain all required certifications, permits, and qualifications necessary for armed security duties.
- Remain alert, attentive, and free from unnecessary distractions while on duty.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- This position is classified as a part-time, non-exempt position.
- Regular work schedule is 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM every Saturday and Sunday, including any holidays observed on those days.
- This is an armed security position.
- Employee must maintain all required licenses, certifications, permits, and qualifications necessary to legally carry a firearm while on duty.
- Employee must comply with all church safety policies, firearm policies, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining all required certifications and legal eligibility for armed security duties.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and any other required screening processes.
- Employee must maintain reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- This position requires standing, walking, climbing stairs, and conducting patrols throughout the church campus during overnight hours.
- Appropriate dress, professional conduct, and sound judgment are required while on duty.
- The church reserves the right to modify duties, responsibilities, schedules, or assignments as needed.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The Part-time Security Guard is offered an hourly rate, payable in 26 equal bi-weekly installments.
Qualifications:

- Strong judgment, discretion, and conflict de-escalation skills.
- Current Enhanced Carry license/permit or ability to obtain required licensing prior to employment.
- Valid firearm certification and demonstrated firearm proficiency.
- Knowledge of proper firearm safety, handling, storage, and situational awareness.
- Prior armed security, law enforcement, military, or related experience strongly preferred.
- Physically able to walk the campus, climb stairs, and perform routine patrol duties.
- Comfortable interacting respectfully with church members, guests, staff, and community visitors.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
- Clean criminal background and ability to pass all required screenings.
- Willingness to follow church policies, procedures, and confidentiality expectations.
