Inventory Specialist
Location: Chandler, AZ
Contract Duration: 12 months (possible extension / conversion)
Pay Rate: $39/hr-$49/hr
Position Summary
The Inventory Specialist is responsible for supporting material planning and coordination activities to ensure the timely availability of materials for construction projects. This role works closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Project Controls, and Construction teams to implement material management processes, maintain accurate material tracking, and support efficient procurement and installation activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and execution of the project's Material Management Plan.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Construction teams to define, identify, and quantify project materials during front-end project execution.
- Maintain standardized material planning processes for key material commodities to support efficient procurement and supply chain operations.
- Ensure consistent material identification methods and clearly defined responsibilities across project teams.
- Identify special or long-lead approval requirements that could impact engineering deliverables and material availability.
- Partner with Engineering to identify critical drawings, supplier data, and design deliverables necessary to support construction schedules.
- Assist with project component numbering and material identification for tagged materials, bulk materials, and spare parts in accordance with project automation and material management requirements.
- Review material requisitions to ensure accurate pay item identification and sufficient detail for shipping, storage, inventory control, and field distribution.
- Monitor engineering deliverables and identify out-of-sequence activities or approval delays that may affect material planning.
- Maintain strong working relationships with Project Controls, Engineering, Supply Chain, Automation Support, and Construction teams to ensure materials are available when needed.
- Track engineering and supply chain schedules to help ensure material deliveries align with construction milestones.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree with 1–2 years of related experience, or
- 5–6 years of relevant experience in inventory, materials management, construction, procurement, or a related field.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of construction materials, vendor-supplied equipment, tools, consumables, and safety supplies.
- Experience with receiving documentation and material tracking processes.
- Strong computer and automation skills, with the ability to quickly learn new systems, including DSCS or similar applications.
- Working knowledge of material storage, inventory control, and material handling equipment.
- Understanding of field purchasing and procurement processes.
- Experience administering equipment rental agreements.
- Familiarity with work package material planning for construction projects.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
