Environmental Permitting Engineer


Location: Chandler, AZ

Schedule: Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 days remote)

Duration: 12 months

Pay Rate Range: $51.40 - $59.04/hr w2


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Permitting Engineer to support our Manufacturing & Technology (M&T) Business Unit. In this role, you will lead and coordinate permitting efforts for complex semiconductor projects, ensuring all environmental and regulatory approvals are secured to keep projects on schedule from planning through startup.

You will serve as a key liaison between clients, regulatory agencies, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), engineering and construction teams, environmental specialists, and ES&H personnel to facilitate timely permit approvals and regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement project permitting strategies, permit matrices, compliance trackers, and permitting schedules.
  • Identify and coordinate all required environmental, utility, building, fire, hazardous materials, wastewater, and construction permits for semiconductor facility projects.
  • Manage permitting activities across engineering, construction, environmental, ES&H, contractors, consultants, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with AHJs, supporting permit applications, plan reviews, inspections, approvals, and project closeout.
  • Evaluate permitting requirements, identify regulatory risks, and recommend mitigation strategies to maintain project schedules.
  • Ensure permit conditions and regulatory requirements are integrated into engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Monitor permit status and compliance milestones, proactively communicating updates and resolving permitting issues that may impact project execution.
  • Support environmental compliance initiatives while ensuring adherence to applicable federal, state, and local regulations.


Qualifications


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5–8 years of relevant environmental permitting experience, or 9–12 years of equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or applicable environmental certification.
  • Experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing projects in Arizona.
  • Proven success managing environmental and construction permitting for semiconductor or large-scale industrial projects.
  • Experience obtaining, tracking, and maintaining permits with municipal, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations, construction permitting processes, utility approvals, building codes, and fire code requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, construction, ES&H, client representatives, contractors, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and mitigate permitting risks in a fast-paced project environment.
