Construction Automation Specialist
Duration: 12 months (possible extension)
Location: Portland, TX (near Corpus Christi)
Pay Rate: $52-$66/hr
Position Summary
The Construction Automation Specialist reports to the Lead Construction Automation Specialist and supports the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of construction automation systems across the project site. This role ensures that digital construction applications are effectively deployed, configured, maintained, and supported to enhance project execution, data integrity, and reporting capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Functional Automation Team to ensure established processes and procedures are followed and support the successful implementation of new technologies and application rollouts according to approved schedules.
- Define and establish data requirements that support construction execution and field work processes.
- Partner with the Project Field Engineer (PFE) to determine project-specific requirements for Construction Automation systems.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, and other project teams to enable seamless integration and automated data exchange between applications.
- Configure Company Standard Applications (BSAPs) to meet project and client requirements.
- Develop, configure, and maintain application reports, ensuring they accurately reflect project data and meet reporting requirements.
- Monitor, validate, and troubleshoot data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency; identify anomalies and communicate findings to the Project Field Engineer.
- Provide day-to-day system administration and ongoing support for all assigned BSAPs.
- Deliver user training, technical support, and troubleshooting assistance to field engineering, supervision, project controls, administration, and other site personnel.
- Liaise with Corporate BSAP Administrators to modify application functionality and configurations to meet project-specific business needs.
- Support the Project Field Engineer and Lead Area Field Engineers by providing guidance, training, and technical assistance to TEAMWorks and Setroute administrators responsible for data management and report generation.
- Promote best practices in construction automation, data quality, and system utilization across the project team.
Administer and support a suite of construction automation tools, including but not limited to:
- TEAMWorks
- WITS (Weld and Welder Tracking System)
- PTR (NCR, RFI, FCD)
- Smart Completion (Turnover System)
- Preservation and Maintenance Module
- Measuring and Test Equipment (M&TE)
- Company Productivity Services (Xfighters)
- Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) Tools
- Power BI
- SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
- Model Builder
- Book Builder
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline is preferred. Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience & Skills
- Strong understanding of engineering, construction methods, and field execution processes gained through practical experience or specialized training.
- Extensive experience administering and supporting TEAMWorks and related construction automation applications.
- Experience with additional company-standard applications such as PTR, Setroute, BPS, and InfoWorks is preferred.
- Working knowledge of standard construction work processes, procedures, and digital workflows.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access; experience with SQL databases, Power BI, or other database and reporting platforms is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to configure, administer, and support enterprise construction applications.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively train and support users across multiple disciplines.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary project environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
