Job Title: Lead Piping Superintendent
Position Type: 12 months (Contract-to-possible perm conversion)
Location: Lake Charles, LA - Onsite (100% Office/Project-based)
Pay Rate: $68-$88/hr
Position Overview:
The Lead Piping Superintendent oversees all activities related to above-ground (A/G) and underground (U/G) piping, including pipe supports, hangers, and welding operations. This role is responsible for managing craft labor, coordinating with subcontractors and internal teams, ensuring work meets specifications, and is delivered on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage all piping operations, including A/G and U/G piping, welding, hangers, and pipe supports.
- Coordinate with direct hire and subcontractor piping teams, including superintendents, general foremen, and foremen, to determine manpower needs and resource allocation.
- Schedule daily/weekly work activities, track progress, and review completed work.
- Assist with the preparation and management of construction schedules and quantity tracking.
- Generate material requisitions for tools, equipment, and consumables.
- Direct and supervise craft labor within assigned piping scope.
- Prepare regular reports including manpower and expenditure forecasts.
- Ensure compliance with all company and project-specific policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Collaborate with other discipline leads and the client’s onsite representatives as required.
- Conduct performance evaluations for subordinate personnel.
- Ensure installation work is based on current revision drawings and specifications.
- Interface regularly with the Piping Field Engineer to resolve technical issues.
- Support and lead initial site mobilization activities and contribute to project planning and scheduling efforts.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in a related field with 10–13 years of relevant experience; or
- 14–17 years of directly related field experience in lieu of a degree.
Skills & Competencies:
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams effectively.
- Strong problem-solving abilities under high-pressure and fast-paced conditions.
- Prior experience in direct hire heavy industrial construction in supervisory roles.
- Industry background in oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, or minerals processing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other construction-related software.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards related to piping and welding.
- Experience developing pneumatic and hydrotest packages, including test witnessing and verification.
- Knowledge of standard company work processes and project execution procedures.
- Proficiency in project management and engineering tools such as Setroute, Unifier, Aconex, DSCS, PTR, Agile, Navisworks, and related systems.
- Experience managing technical service subcontracts.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be physically capable of conducting field inspections, which may include:
- Extensive walking on large construction sites in hot and humid environments
- Climbing ladders and scaffolding
- Working on elevated platforms or uneven surfaces
- Entering confined or small spaces
- Ability to lift equipment as required.
- Must be able to don and properly use all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to: safety harnesses, life vests, and lift buckets.
