Finatal is exclusively retained on the search for a VP of Finance/Controller to join a private equity-backed construction contractor that is $60m in revenue. This role represents a highly visible opportunity where you will step into being the #1 person in finance reporting directly into the CEO and board. They are needing a leader to bring structure, discipline, and hands-on execution to a growing construction services platform.
You will partner closely with ownership and investors to stabilize and scale the accounting function, taking ownership of core processes including percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP management, job costing, and lender-facing reporting. The business is operationally strong and project-driven, but requires a leader who is comfortable being in the weeds while also building the foundation for stronger KPIs, reporting, and systems utilization.

Responsibilities:
- Own the full accounting function, including month-end close, journal entries, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting
- Lead and develop a team of four
- Take over ownership of WIP schedules, job costing, and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Manage year-end audit process and serve as the primary point of contact for lenders and external partners
- Oversee budgeting and forecasting in partnership with ownership, building on existing support structures
- Optimize and fully leverage the Viewpoint ERP system, transitioning job modules currently maintained in Excel
- Establish and monitor KPIs tied to project performance, margin, and operational execution
- Partner cross-functionally with operations to ensure accurate job bids, cost tracking, and financial accountability
- Strengthen internal controls and accounting processes as the business scales
Requirements:
- Proven VP of Finance or Controller within a construction or job-based services environment
- Deep expertise in percentage-of-completion accounting and WIP management
- Experience with Viewpoint ERP strongly preferred
- Strong technical accounting foundation; CPA preferred but not required
- Highly hands-on leader comfortable operating in the details while improving systems and processes
- Ability to translate financial data into actionable insights for ownership and operators
- Willingness to be on-site in Charlotte, NC three days per week
