The Army National Guard is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, ensuring its members are well-equipped to meet the challenges of today’s dynamic security landscape.

About The Role

As a Technical Engineer within the Army National Guard, you will play a crucial role in supporting construction and engineering projects that enhance infrastructure and operational capabilities. Your responsibilities will include developing detailed construction plans, conducting land surveys, and supporting the building of airstrips, docks, barracks, roads, and other vital structures. This role offers a unique blend of technical training and practical application, enabling you to gain valuable skills in surveying, drafting, and project planning. You will work closely with experienced engineers and construction teams to ensure projects are completed efficiently, accurately, and to specifications. The position provides an excellent pathway to a civilian career in construction, engineering, or architectural fields, with comprehensive training, hands-on experience, and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

To qualify for the role of Technical Engineer in the Army National Guard, candidates must meet specific educational, age, and health standards. A high school diploma or GED is required, and candidates should be at least a junior in high school at the time of enlistment. The age range for enlistment is between 17 and 35 years old. Applicants must pass a physical exam, meet legal and moral standards, and fulfill citizenship requirements. Prior military experience is not necessary, but a strong interest in engineering, maps, and charts, along with proficiency in computer-aided drafting (CAD) technology, is advantageous. Basic computer literacy, interest in mathematics—particularly algebra, geometry, and trigonometry—and a desire to serve and develop technical skills are essential qualities for success in this role.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Technical Engineer in the Army National Guard include a variety of technical and field tasks aimed at supporting construction and infrastructure projects. Key duties involve drawing topographic maps and charts using computer-aided drafting systems and software, conducting geodetic and construction surveys utilizing advanced survey instruments and GPS technology, and providing technical support for both vertical and horizontal construction initiatives. You will assist in developing detailed construction plans, specifications, and diagrams for structures such as roads, airfields, and buildings. Additionally, responsibilities include conducting land surveys, interpreting aerial photographs to create photomaps, testing construction materials, and preparing wiring and plumbing diagrams. The role also involves building scale models of land areas to visualize project layouts and collaborating with project teams to ensure accuracy and adherence to specifications. These tasks will enhance your technical expertise and prepare you for a successful civilian career in engineering, architecture, or construction industries.
