About The Role
Raytheon is seeking a talented Electrical Engineer to join its Advanced Effector Guidance Systems team in Tucson, AZ. This onsite role offers an exciting opportunity to work on the design, development, and testing of wireless communication and data link systems for tactical missile programs. The successful candidate will be involved in all phases of product development, from preliminary design to integration and field testing. As part of the RF Products department, you will contribute to the development of next-generation high-capacity, covert, and agile data links supporting various challenging environments, including space-based and terrestrial RF links. This position requires a strong foundation in communication systems, signal processing, and RF hardware development, with a focus on creating innovative solutions that enhance data transmission capabilities for defense applications.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Proficiency in programming and simulation tools such as MATLAB, SIMULINK, C/C , or similar languages is essential. Candidates should have a solid understanding of communication theory, digital signal processing, probability theory, stochastic signal processing, RF, and electromagnetic principles. Prior experience with RF subsystem design, waveform simulation, and understanding of RF impairments like phase noise and Doppler effects is highly desirable. A background in system engineering, antenna design, and familiarity with layered communication protocols will be considered a plus. Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent communication skills are necessary to succeed in this role.
Responsibilities
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for performing and evaluating concept and performance trade studies, link budget analyses, and demonstrating capabilities for data link communication applications. Developing, prototyping, and testing data link models and communication algorithms in high-fidelity simulations, followed by hardware implementation, will be key tasks. The role involves verifying and validating communication and signal processing algorithms through laboratory and field testing environments. The engineer will support all phases of product development by participating in design reviews, peer reviews, and delivering briefings to internal leadership and external customers. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to system-level analyses, support integration efforts, and assist in troubleshooting hardware and software issues to ensure optimal system performance.
