District Literacy Coach: Architect of Instructional Excellence

Location: Ferguson-Florissant School District District-Wide Support

Status: 1-Year Federally Funded Position Certified Professional Exempt

The Opportunity: A Year of Transformation

In Ferguson-Florissant, we believe that literacy is the foundation of all equity and opportunity. We are seeking a visionary, high-energy District Literacy Coach for a specialized, one-year intensive mission funded by federal grants. You aren't just an observer; you are a partner in the trenches. You will work alongside our classroom teachers to refine their craft, analyze data with precision, and ensure that every student in our district has access to high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction.

If you are a master of pedagogy who thrives on adult learning and student-centered growth, this is your chance to leave a lasting legacy in a single academic year.

Role Summary

The District Literacy Coach (DLC) serves as a critical bridge between district initiatives and classroom reality. Working closely with the Humanities Content Manager, you will support teachers through a cycle of coaching, modeling, and collaborative planning. Your goal is to build teacher capacity, ensuring the integrity of our curriculum while using data to adapt instruction for our diverse learners. This is a role for a "teacher of teachers" who understands how to facilitate professional growth through empathy and evidence.

Why You’ll Succeed (Qualifications)

  • Advanced Expertise: You hold a Master’s Degree in Education with at least 3 years of high-impact classroom experience.
  • Certified Specialist: You possess valid Missouri Certification with an endorsement in K-12 Reading, Elementary, or 5-12 ELA.
  • Adult Learning Advocate: You have a proven track record of working with adult learners, including experience in coaching, designing, and facilitating professional development.
  • Communication Master: You excel in writing, speaking, and—most importantly—active listening. You can translate complex data into actionable classroom strategies.
  • Organizational Ninja: You have the ability to perform multiple tasks and manage a district-wide schedule with strong human relations and organizational skills.

Your Impact (Key Duties)

  • Build Instructional Capacity: Ensure the integrity of the literacy curriculum by helping teachers understand and deliver high-quality instructional materials with confidence.
  • Student-Centered Coaching: Utilize evidence-based coaching practices to improve student literacy through real-time modeling, co-teaching, and collaborative planning.
  • Data-Driven Leadership: In collaboration with the Content Manager, evaluate and share literacy data to help teachers modify curriculum and assessments to meet specific student needs.
  • MTSS Champion: Apply Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) practices to ensure teachers and specialists are meeting the needs of all students through adaptive teaching and interventions.
  • Curriculum Innovation: Support the design of units and lessons, sharing evidence-based methodologies that maximize student learning environments.
  • Professional Learning: Facilitate curriculum-based professional learning opportunities across the district to share best practices and district mandates.

Your Leadership Partners

  • Primary Support: Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction

The Logistics of Your Success

  • Classification: Certified Staff Teachers Contract Day Work Calendar.
  • Duration: 1-Year Federally Funded Position (2026-2027 School Year).
  • Stipend: An additional 10-day stipend will be paid in one sum upon completion of all assigned duties.
  • Salary: Based on the Teacher Salary Schedule (determined by experience and degree).
