Role Summary
The Director of Finance is responsible for the daily execution of our financial strategy. You will supervise a dedicated team handling accounts payable, receivables, and payroll, while ensuring our internal controls are ironclad. You will also be a key player in budget development, state and federal reporting, and the annual audit process, ensuring the district remains responsive to an evolving school finance environment.
Why You’ll Succeed (Qualifications)
- Educationally Prepared: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Progressive Experience: Minimum of five years of responsible experience in school finance, auditing, or business operations, including supervisory experience.
- Technical Authority: Strong knowledge of governmental accounting, Missouri DESE financial reporting, and state/federal compliance regulations.
- Credentialed Expert: A CPA, SFO, or relevant finance certification is highly preferred.
- Systems Mindset: High proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and data tools, with the ability to analyze complex data and prepare accurate forecasts.
Your Impact (Key Duties)
- Operational Oversight: Manage the daily functions of the business office, ensuring all financial transactions are processed accurately and on time.
- Budgetary Analysis: Assist the CFO in developing the annual operating budget and monitoring expenditures to identify trends or variances.
- Reporting & Compliance: Prepare monthly and annual financial reports, ensuring all DESE, AFR/ASBR, and grant filings are submitted with precision.
- Audit Coordination: Serve as the primary liaison for the annual external audit, maintaining the documentation needed for a successful review.
- Cash & Revenue Management: Assist with cash flow management, banking relationships, and tracking incoming revenues from taxes and state aid.
- Departmental Collaboration: Partner with Human Resources to support payroll funding, benefit reconciliations, and insurance billing.
- Team Leadership: Evaluate and coach finance staff, promoting a culture of teamwork, customer service, and continuous improvement.
