Role Summary
The School District Accountant performs critical professional accounting duties that support the district’s entire financial operation. Working under the Director of Finance, you will maintain the general ledger, reconcile complex accounts, and ensure our financial statements meet the highest governmental standards. You are a key player in budget development and audit preparation, ensuring that every dollar is accounted for and every regulation is met.
Why You’ll Succeed (Qualifications)
- Educationally Prepared: Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Proven Professional: Minimum of three years of professional accounting experience. Experience in governmental or school district accounting is highly preferred.
- Technical Specialist: Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and governmental fund accounting.
- Certified Expert: A CPA or advanced accounting certification is a significant advantage.
- Systems Savvy: High proficiency in spreadsheet applications, financial systems, and ERP/accounting software.

- General Ledger Mastery: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, and review expenditure activity for coding accuracy and budget compliance .
- Reporting Excellence: Prepare monthly and annual financial statements that promote fiscal integrity and accountability.
- Audit & Compliance: Support the annual external audit by preparing requested schedules and verifying that internal controls are followed year-round .
- Grant Stewardship: Monitor grant and special revenue funds to ensure accurate reporting and adherence to state and federal regulations .
- Asset Management: Support fixed asset accounting and inventory records to safeguard district property.
- Operational Support: Assist in budget monitoring and provide financial analysis to department leaders to help them manage their resources effectively.
- Collaborative Partnership: Maintain positive relationships with internal staff and external stakeholders, providing training on accounting procedures as needed .
