JOB SUMMARY
The Risk & Reinsurance Manger will provide technical, analytical, and operational support to the Vice President of Risk & Reinsurance in managing the Company’s ceded and assumed reinsurance programs and overall risk management framework. This role encompasses data analysis, treaty administration, financial and regulatory reporting, contract and trust support, and the preparation of reinsurance-related marketing materials. The Risk & Reinsurance Manager will collaborate closely with reinsurance brokers, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders to support placements, renewals, reconciliations, and compliance processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Reinsurance Program Support
- Develop and maintain treaty documentation by designing, implementing, and updating financial schedules, summaries, participation lists, expected recoveries, and capital impacts with high attention to detail.
- Contribute to the structuring, placement, and administration of all ceded and assumed reinsurance programs.
- Contribute to the affiliated reinsurer’s structuring and deployment of capital across multiple treaties annually.
- Evaluate and support the implementation of tailored program structures to strengthen enterprise-wide risk management strategy.
Data, Reporting & Analytics
- Collect, validate, analyze, maintain exposure, premium, and loss data for treaty submissions, modeling, and management reporting.
- Prepare ceded premium and loss bordereaux, reconciliations, recoverable analyses, and regulatory/financial reports.
- Build and maintain internal databases and queries using SQL, Access, and Excel to efficiently manage exposure and treaty-related data.
- Conduct ad hoc analyses of exposures, capacity, loss development, financial impacts, and portfolio optimization.
- Support catastrophe modeling activities for RMS and Verisk, including data preparation, scenario/stress testing, and result interpretation.
Broker, Reinsurer & Internal Liaison
- Coordinate with reinsurance brokers during placement and renewal cycles by preparing marketing decks, pro formas, and submissions (including statistics, risk profiles, catastrophe history, and model results).
- Liaise with reinsurers and brokers by responding to data requests and preparing various exhibits and marketing materials for annual reinsurance marketing meetings.
- Collaborate with Finance, Underwriting, and Investor Relations to deliver timely reinsurance information for planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives.
- Develop clear, professional presentation materials in PowerPoint and Word for management, reinsurers, and other stakeholders.
Operations & Compliance
- Prepare and maintain detailed reinsurance files for management and Finance.
- Support regulatory and rating agency submissions, including reinsurance-related data calls and risk transfer documentation.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, procedures, and reconciliations to monitor reinsurance program performance.
Contract Wording & Trust Documentation
- Review and analyze reinsurance contract wording and terms with strong attention to detail.
- Support the drafting, review, and finalization of reinsurance contracts, addenda, Interest and Liabilities Agreements (I&Ls), and trust agreements supporting collateralized reinsurance participations.
- Maintain documentation for both traditional and collateralized structures to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and accounting standards.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in risk management, Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in reinsurance, actuarial, risk management, or financial/analytical roles.
- Professional designations such as ARe, CPCU, ARM, or progress toward actuarial exams are a plus.
- Solid understanding of both traditional and collateralized reinsurance structures and mechanics, including the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund (FHCF).
- Knowledge of reinsurance concepts and contract structures (XOL, RPP, Aggregate, QS), with the ability to interpret and apply them within reinsurance contract wording.
- Experience with bordereaux reporting, recoverable reconciliations, and reinsurance recovery calculations strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with insurance-linked securities (catastrophe bonds) is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word is required. Candidates must be able to perform advanced Excel functions and reporting (including formulas, pivot tables, and similar tools) and use PowerPoint and Word to develop high-quality marketing materials, reports, and pitch decks.
- Experience with database management tools (SQL, Access, or similar) is preferred.
- Experience with catastrophe modeling software (RMS, Verisk, or similar) is preferred.
- Introductory knowledge or experience with general purpose coding languages (Python or similar) is a plus.
- Experience in data analysis and interpretation with the ability to manage large, complex datasets in an efficient manner.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare professional materials for management, reinsurers, regulators, and auditors.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
