Safety & EHS Consultant
Location: 100% Onsite (flexibility up to 1 day remote for strong candidates)
Engagement Type: Contract (Potential Temp-to-Perm)
Overview
Our client is seeking a hands-on Safety & EHS Consultant.
This role is ideal for a “player-coach” / mentor type — someone who combines high-level program expertise with the ability to roll up their sleeves and execute.
Key Objectives
- Rapidly assess and organize an existing safety program
- Identify compliance gaps, risks, and priorities
- Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor to leadership
- Help bridge the gap while hiring a Safety Specialist or Safety Manager
- Provide hands-on support with training, compliance, and documentation
- Establish structure, clarity, and processes for long-term sustainability
Core Responsibilities
- Review and rationalize large volumes of safety documentation
- Evaluate existing EHS programs for OSHA compliance and effectiveness
- Organize and streamline policies, procedures, and recordkeeping systems
- Establish a more usable and scalable safety framework
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure alignment with OSHA general industry standards (not construction-heavy)
- Assess key programs such as:
- Lockout/Tagout (critical)
- Hazard Communication (top priority)
- Forklift safety
- General industrial safety practices
- Identify gaps and implement corrective actions
Training & Hands-On Support
- Deliver or support core safety training programs
- Act as a go-to expert for on-the-ground safety questions
- Assist in strengthening training materials
Leadership Advisory & Mentorship
- Partner directly with leadership to guide decision-making
- Mentor incoming Safety Specialist or Manager (if/when hired)
- Help define what “good” looks like for the future safety function
Act as a trusted, experienced voice
- Create structure and documentation to support long-term ownership
- Ensure smooth transition once full-time hire is in place
- Potential to convert to full-time if there is mutual interest
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 7–15 years of EHS / Safety experience
- Strong background in general manufacturing environments
- Chemical manufacturing = plus (not required)
- Experience assessing or rebuilding safety programs
- Prior consulting or “fix-it” environments highly preferred
Technical Strengths
- Deep knowledge of OSHA (general industry) standards
Hands-on experience with:
- Hazard Communication (must-have)
- Lockout/Tagout (important)
- Forklift safety programs
Familiarity with:
- Confined space (nice-to-have)
- Fall protection (nice-to-have)
- Respirator programs (bonus, not required)
Education / Certifications
- Bachelor’s in EHS or related = preferred, not required
- OSHA 30 strongly preferred (general or construction acceptable)
