Director of Risk Management, Workers’ Compensation & Safety

Summary

The Director of Risk Management, Workers’ Compensation & Safety leads both the strategic direction and day-to-day oversight of the company’s risk, safety, and workers’ compensation programs for a workforce of approximately 5,000 employees. This role ensures compliance with Hawai‘i-specific regulations, reduces financial and operational risk, and promotes a strong culture of safety across retail, distribution, office, and support environments. This is a hands-on leadership role partnering closely with Operations, HR, Legal, Finance, and external vendors.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage risk management, workplace safety, and workers’ compensation programs across the organization
• Ensure compliance with Hawai‘i regulatory requirements, OSHA standards, and safety protocols
• Lead claims management, including coordination with third-party administrators and insurance partners
• Develop and implement proactive safety and loss prevention initiatives to reduce workplace incidents
• Partner cross-functionally with Operations, HR, Legal, and Finance to manage risk and improve processes
• Monitor and analyze incident data, trends, and reporting metrics to drive continuous improvement
• Support and enforce food safety standards and compliance across applicable business units
• Provide hands-on leadership, including policy development, training, and safety program execution
