Job Description
We are seeking a Thermal Performance Engineer to join ' engineering team in Auburn Hills, MI. In this role, you will support the development and validation of vehicle thermal systems for both Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) platforms. You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure vehicle thermal performance objectives are achieved while supporting testing, validation, troubleshooting, and issue resolution throughout the product development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform vehicle thermal system instrumentation, testing, and validation for BEV and ICE vehicle programs.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle thermal and cooling system performance issues.
- Support BEV energy consumption analysis and range optimization activities.
- Plan and coordinate vehicle validation activities, including DVP&R testing and reporting.
- Conduct thermal system reviews using simulation and vehicle testing data.
- Develop and execute thermal development test plans with laboratory engineers.
- Support hot weather testing, vehicle validation, and cooling system evaluations.
- Monitor project status and communicate technical issues, risks, and recommendations to project teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Engineering, Vehicle Development, Aero/Thermal, Validation, and Styling.
- Track project timing and ensure thermal performance objectives are achieved throughout the vehicle development process.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
- 3 years of relevant automotive engineering experience.
- Experience with vehicle testing and thermal system validation.
- Hands-on experience with data acquisition systems.
- Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting BEV and ICE vehicle thermal systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with thermal development, HVAC, or automotive cooling systems.
- Experience with drive cell or wind tunnel testing.
- Knowledge of EPA Drive Cycles and vehicle energy demand analysis.
- Experience working with bargaining unit mechanics.
- Leadership experience coordinating engineering activities or technical teams.
