Job Description:
The Certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter & Language Assistance Coordinator supports patients, families, and care teams by facilitating communication for individuals with hearing impairments and limited English proficiency. This role plays a key part in enhancing patient experience and ensuring equitable access to care.
In addition to providing interpretation services, this individual will assist in overseeing the Language Assistance Program, including managing interpretation resources, supporting staff education, and helping ensure effective communication across diverse patient populations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing ASL interpretation for patients, families, and healthcare providers
- Supporting communication for patients with limited English proficiency
- Assisting with oversight of the Language Assistance Program
- Managing interpretation and translation devices and resources
- Supporting staff education on language access services
- Promoting patient satisfaction through effective communication support
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Completion of a medical interpreter training program required
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an ASL Interpreter
- Certified Medical Interpreter required
- Trilingual (English/Spanish/ASL) preferred
