Everest Client seeks a Payroll Accountant responsible for coordinating daily operations and activities of their payroll function. This position requires the monitoring of all payments made to company employees to ensure that they are properly processed, recorded, and in compliance with all applicable Federal and State rules and regulations. The Payroll Accountant is also responsible for directing the implementation and administration of mandated payroll regulations and policies. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal, State law and IRS rules in withholding of Social Security, Medicare taxes and Federal income tax for all company employees, non-resident aliens, employee retirement contributions and benefits.
Responsibilities
- Oversees and coordinates the preparation of all biweekly, semi-monthly, special compensation, bonus, and commission payrolls; oversees the issuance of special out-of-cycle checks.
- Monitors federal, state and local taxes, employee benefit contributions, garnishments, and other deductions to ensure accuracy of individual pay.
- Ensures payroll transactions follow corporate policies and procedures.
- Resolves employee questions and concerns regarding pay, deductions, and benefits.
- Coordinates payroll matters with HR and other key departments as needed.
- Coordinates with payroll service provider on issues affecting company payroll.
- Performs year-end payroll activities in preparation for W-2 processing.
- Assists with identifying and providing sufficient documentation to support payroll journal entries and reconciliation items identified by the General Accounting team.
- Assists external auditors during audit process by providing documents and other payroll-related reports upon request.
- Evaluates the payroll system’s internal controls and procedures and recommends changes as needed to ensure the safeguarding of assets.
- Identifies and initiates appropriate accounting procedures to prevent or correct errors or irregularities.
- Advises, interprets, and provides direction to management on state and local laws and regulations involving payroll and related benefit program deductions to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Prepares a variety of correspondence, memoranda, statistical summaries, reports, announcements, and other materials related to the payroll function.
- Engages in process improvement initiatives.
- Recommends and assists in developing and implementing new and/or revised policies and procedures to ensure efficient processing of Boingo Wireless’s payroll and ongoing compliance with legislative mandates and statutes.
- Supports other accounting functions as needed.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in accounting or related major
- 5 years ADP experience.
- CPP certification preferred
- Experience in dealing with compensation matters and wage structure
- Must be highly proficient in Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLookUp’s, etc.
- Experience with Oracle a plus
- Must possess critical thinking skills and strong attention to details.
- Effective team player with strong interpersonal relationship skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
