JOB SUMMARY
The State Support Team Urban Math Specialist (UMS) will provide intensive, embedded coaching aligned to Ohio’s Plan for K-12 Mathematics to 1-2 buildings in a targeted urban district in northwest Ohio. This position will be tasked with building the capacity of teachers and administrators within the buildings to provide effective mathematics instruction, focusing on grades K-5. The Urban Math Specialist will deliver sustained support that advances math outcomes through an integrated multi-tiered system of support framework. Professional Development, provided by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, to Urban Math Specialists, will focus on K-5 Foundational Math skills and will be required for this position. This professional learning will serve as the model for High Quality Instruction to be provided within the urban district.
QUALIFICATIONS
- The following are the minimum qualifications of the personnel:
- A master’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field (curriculum, administration, etc.).
- Experience providing instruction in special education or to students with disabilities who are receiving math instruction in the general education classroom.
- Experience providing instruction to students experiencing mathematics difficulties.
- Experience providing and coaching for mathematics instruction.
- Experience facilitating and interpreting screening measures for identifying students at risk for mathematics failure.
- Familiarity with Ohio Materials Matter and its role in supporting high-quality instructional resources.
- Experience facilitating or participating in plan-do-study-act cycles (i.e., collaborative problem-solving model, etc.)
- Support development, documentation, and use of a comprehensive assessment system, including decision rules for mathematics.
- Mathematics acquisition, assessment, and instruction.
- Effective strategies for mathematic instruction, aligned with the research on the most effective teaching strategies.
