What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior & Academic Coach (through DSS) position at ESC of Lake Erie West?
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the classroom teacher, the ALC Behavioral and Academic Coach provides primary support to the classroom teacher in reinforcing and monitoring the daily educational program and behavior plans for students with serious emotional disturbances, learning disabilities, and other varied disabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma required – Associate Degree or higher preferred
- ODE License for Educational Aide or the ability to obtain a license
- Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
- Certification in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) preferred
- Experience with Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) preferred.
- Assist the classroom teacher in reinforcing the educational program and behavior plan for students in accordance with their IEP
- Assist the classroom teacher in adapting curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the needs of individual students
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with classroom teacher to ensure effective implementation of the student’s educational program and behavior plan
- Assist the classroom teacher in the implementation of the PBIS system; coach students in behavior management skills
- Assist teacher with documentation requirements including collecting data to monitor student progress
- Assist with crisis intervention situations in the ALC program
- Assist teacher and students with tasks related to daily activities (e.g. lunch and/or recess duty, helping load and unload buses
- Supervise students during short-term absences of teacher from the classroom or in non-classroom settings (e.g. restrooms, cafeterias, corridors)
- Perform routine clerical tasks and assist with maintenance of the classroom as directed by teacher
- Help maintain accurate and complete student records; help prepare and submit required reports on time.
