What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Schools Special Education Specialist position at ESC of Lake Erie West?
JOB SUMMARY
The Community School Special Education Specialist is responsible for providing quality services in accordance with local, state, and federal mandates in the area of special education to all Community Schools sponsored by the ESCLEW. Maintaining a focus on special education, the Special Educational Specialist will 1) provide support to community school administrators, directors and boards of education to improve school operations specifically in the area of special education; 2) monitor the compliance with federal and state laws and mandates related to the special education program within the community schools; and 3) provide proactive and/or responsive technical assistance to the needs of sponsored community schools that reflect current best practices in special education.
The Special Education Specialist will collect, submit, and enter current and accurate data related to work responsibilities within the designated timeframes.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (Master’s degree preferred)
- Ohio State Board of Education administrative licensure preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of community school laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, and federal and state mandates for special education
- Minimum of five years’ experience in education required (supervisor experience preferred)
