    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The General Laborer plays a vital role in maintaining the overall functionality and appearance of Englewood Schools' facilities. This position involves assisting with routine maintenance tasks, including general laborer duties in custodial services, preventative maintenance, and snow/ice removal.. The general laborer will serve as a backup or substitute for custodial staff at schools, ensuring cleanliness and operational efficiency. Additionally, the role supports administrative functions by transitioning between various responsibilities as directed by the Director or Supervisor of Operations and Maintenance. A key aspect of this position is enhancing response times to work orders, and improving the efficiency of addressing maintenance issues. The general laborer will also support HVAC functions, focusing on reducing costs related to filter changes and coil cleaning. Finally, this role is dedicated to developing and promoting positive community relations, ensuring that all facilities reflect the community pride of Englewood Schools and present a positive public image.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Perform maintenance, and custodial, work throughout the District, including heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks.
    • Fill in for Head Custodians as needed, handling cleaning and maintenance across district buildings.
    • Clean facilities, including trash removal and bathroom cleaning
    • Conduct routine checks and maintenance on HVAC systems, including filter changes.
    • Maintain and repair gym equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
    • Handle minor plumbing and electrical repairs, painting, and drywall repair.
    • Manage outdoor tasks such as parking lot maintenance, athletic field lining, mowing, trimming and trash collection.
    • Perform roof inspections, gutter cleaning, and address related issues.
    • Picking up trash in exterior areas
    • Remove snow and ice using trucks, tractors, or manual methods.
    • Assisting maintenance staff as requested
    • Actively participating in meetings, in-service, and other required training
    • Applying and implementing knowledge, skills, and new understanding to support Operations, Maintenance, and Transportation
    • Maintain district vehicles to ensure proper functioning and perform preventative maintenance.
    • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested

    EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

    High School Graduate or equivalent.
    Five (5) years of general facilities maintenance experience (preferred).
    Demonstrated experience with a variety of maintenance and ground equipment required.
    Bilingual (preferred). English fluency will be determined through the interview process.

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:

    Valid Colorado Driver's License.
    Must maintain a driving record that meets the standards of the District insurance policy.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Frequent lifting 5 (five) to 75 (seventy-five) pounds. Occasional lifting of up to one hundred fifty (150) pounds. Frequent to constant sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and digging. Frequent to occasional stooping, kneeling, squatting, crawling, and climbing. Visual concentration.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Regular exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving parts, vibration, and chemicals. Regular exposure to adverse climate and weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

    SALARY:
    Starting rate is $23.46 – 26.54 per hour, depending upon full-time job-related experience.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    New hires or rehires will be responsible for the fingerprint processing fee required for background checks through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
