Job Summary:
The Technical Trainer and Instructional Designer manages day-to-day training and education activities for ECS customers, prospects, and employees. The primary objective is to educate fire protection industry professionals on how nitrogen and ECS products prevent corrosion, while supporting internal teams and driving future growth through impactful training programs.
This role develops and delivers instructor-led and virtual training sessions, collaborates with internal teams to identify educational needs, and ensures alignment between live and eLearning courses. Additional responsibilities include maintaining training equipment, creating quarterly event schedules, managing curriculum resources, and contributing to the overall training strategy.
Key abilities will include a mastery of the science of corrosion and corrosion mitigation in fire sprinkler systems, the operation of fire sprinkler systems and general fire protection concepts, ECS products, services, and sales processes, Salesforce data management system, A/V equipment operation, understanding of Learning Management Systems (LMS), key performance indicator design and reporting, and an understanding of strategic training curriculum design.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Develop and Deliver Training Programs
- Design and present Instructor-Led Training (ILT) sessions at ECS offices and remote locations.
- Design and present Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) sessions from the ECS studio.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop training materials and co-present when appropriate.
- Log and maintain certification records
- Set-up and break-down of training rooms
Training Strategy and Alignment
- Work with the Technical Training & Development Manager and Director of Training to shape overall internal and external training strategy.
- Ensure ILT and VILT programs align with eLearning courses in the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Collaborate with training team to develop annual budgets.
Curriculum and Scheduling
- Develop and maintain a centralized curriculum database to track and analyze external training programs
- Create and manage quarterly ILT and VILT schedules
- Administer role-based onboarding programs tailored to each department
- Ensure training materials and methods are kept current with industry trends, regulations and technology
Equipment and Process Management
- Maintain and update training equipment, including studio A/V and demo equipment
- Develop new procedures for equipment use and upkeep
- Assist in creating and maintaining the Training Department’s process manual
Collaboration and Promotion
- Partner with internal sales, service, and customer support teams to identify ongoing educational needs.
- Set targets for employee skill development based on roles and responsibilities.
- Promote ECS training programs through industry events.
- Train and mentor future training team members.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Projecting a professional image to represent the company
- Experience in the fire protection industry, commercial mechanical (HVAC), or commercial plumbing industry
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills in conducting instructor-led training (ILT)
- Experience in technical training, curriculum development, or instructional design
- Ability to collaborate across departments and work with subject matter experts
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Experience in fire protection system operation
- Electro-mechanical equipment operation experience
- Proficiency in webinars and virtual instructor-led training (VILT)
- A/V equipment experience
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and eLearning tools
- Salesforce/CRM experience
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in a related field (engineering, business, education) – preferred
- Three years of group training experience – required
- Two years of virtual training experience – required
- Experience in a customer-facing training role (preferably within the industrial or manufacturing sectors) – required
- Fire protection industry experience – preferred
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- This is a combination of an in-office position at ECS headquarters and working at customer sites for training sessions.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing while conducting training sessions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and team-lift up to 125 pounds.
Travel:
- Travel (including international) will be required to provide customer on-site training, as needed. This could be as often as monthly.
