ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We are looking for a Specification Technician (Spec Tech/Technical Designer) to support the development of our Infant Apparel, Baby Clothing, and Plush Toys line. This role bridges design, product development, and production, ensuring that every garment and plush item is executed to spec, fit, and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, and product development, along with the ability to collaborate across internal teams and global vendors. Experience with children’s wear and toy development is highly preferred. Responsibilities include:
- Garment & Plush Specs: Create, update, and maintain detailed technical specs for both infant apparel, baby clothing, and plush toy categories.
- Sample Review: Evaluate fit, construction, and finishing of samples at all development stages; provide precise comments and corrections to factories.
- Tech Pack Development: Build and manage comprehensive tech packs, including measurement charts, construction details, CADs, flats, and bill of materials.
- Factory Communication: Liaise directly with overseas vendors to relay corrections, ensure compliance, and follow up on approvals.
- Cross-Team Support: Partner with design, production, and sales teams to ensure sample readiness for line reviews, buyer meetings, and trade presentations.
- Testing & Compliance: Support product testing and safety compliance processes, including CPSIA and ASTM requirements for children’s products.
- Data & Tracking: Maintain accurate records of product specs, approvals, and changes using Excel, PLM, and internal systems
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
COMPETENCIES
- Solid understanding of garment construction, patternmaking principles, and plush toy manufacturing methods.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop for CADs, flats, and callouts.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills for measurement charts, data entry, and tracking.
- Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Clear communicator, capable of drafting accurate comments and corresponding with overseas vendors.
- Preferred: Familiarity with safety/regulatory requirements for children’s products (CPSIA, ASTM) and experience with PLM systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or equivalent, with wholesale imports or related experience; or an Associate’s degree with 2 years of wholesale imports or related experience; or 3 years in a wholesale imports or related role.
Salary : $70,000 - $75,000
