Maintenance Planner
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing, planning, scheduling, and optimizing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of plant equipment and assets. This position serves as a key liaison between Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Procurement to minimize downtime, improve equipment reliability, and maximize asset performance.
Key Responsibilities
Work Order Planning
Review incoming maintenance work requests and define job scope.
Develop detailed job plans, including labor requirements, tools, materials, permits, and safety precautions.
Coordinate with maintenance supervisors and operations personnel to ensure work is properly planned prior to execution.
Maintenance Scheduling
Develop and maintain weekly maintenance schedules in coordination with Operations and Maintenance leadership.
Prioritize work activities based on safety, reliability, production requirements, and resource availability.
Coordinate planned maintenance outages and shutdown activities.
Materials & Procurement
Identify required spare parts and materials needed for maintenance activities.
Create material requisitions and coordinate with Procurement to ensure parts availability.
Maintain inventory awareness and support critical spare parts management.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all planned work complies with OSHA, Process Safety Management (PSM), environmental regulations, and company safety standards.
Verify appropriate permits, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements, confined space procedures, and other safety controls are incorporated into job plans.
Shutdown & Turnaround Planning
Develop detailed maintenance outage and turnaround plans, including scope, manpower, timelines, contractor coordination, and resource requirements.
Support execution and post-outage reviews to improve future performance.
CMMS Administration & Documentation
Maintain accurate equipment records, preventive maintenance plans, Bills of Material (BOMs), and maintenance histories within SAP or other CMMS platforms.
Track and report maintenance performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Continuous Improvement
Analyze maintenance and reliability data to identify opportunities for improvement.
Support reliability initiatives, root cause investigations, and optimization of preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
Recommend process improvements that enhance equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency.
Additional Responsibilities
Provide support to the Maintenance Department and perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Knowledge
Strong understanding of industrial maintenance practices and equipment, including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, reactors, instrumentation, and rotating equipment.
CMMS Experience
Experience utilizing SAP PM or similar Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Reliability & Maintenance Concepts
Familiarity with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and reliability engineering principles.
Safety Knowledge
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, Process Safety Management (PSM), Management of Change (MOC), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and chemical manufacturing safety practices.
Planning & Organization
Demonstrated ability to develop detailed maintenance plans, estimate labor requirements, coordinate multiple priorities, and manage resources effectively.
Communication & Collaboration
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Procurement, contractors, and vendors.
Education & Experience
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience will be considered.
Minimum of 7–10 years of maintenance, reliability, operations, or maintenance planning experience in a chemical, petrochemical, refining, or industrial manufacturing environment.
Salary : $70,000 - $90,000
