A well-established electrical and utility contractor is seeking an Estimator to support preconstruction and estimating efforts on underground power transmission and distribution projects. This role is ideal for an estimator with early career experience in at-risk construction estimating who is looking to deepen their exposure to utility infrastructure projects within Southern California.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of detailed cost estimates for underground power T&D projects
- Perform quantity takeoffs for duct bank, conduit, vaults, manholes, trenching, and civil scope
- Review drawings, specifications, utility standards, and bid documents
- Support senior estimators with bid assembly, pricing validation, and scope reviews
- Analyze labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor pricing
- Participate in bid meetings, scope clarifications, and internal estimate reviews
- Maintain organized estimate documentation and historical cost data
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of construction industry experience, including 2β3 years in estimating at-risk construction work
- Hands-on experience with underground power transmission and/or distribution projects
- Experience working on projects involving SDG&E, PG&E, SCE, or comparable utilities strongly preferred
- Exposure to estimating software and digital takeoff tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Planswift, HeavyBid, Excel)
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work onsite in Long Beach or San Diego (relocation not currently offered)
Preferred Background
- Field experience (foreman, field engineer, or project engineer) supporting underground utility work
- Familiarity with utility construction standards and at-risk contracting environments
Salary : $90,000 - $110,000
