Construction Engineer II
Our client is seeking a Construction Engineer II to join their team in Lisle, IL, to play a key role in the successful delivery of transportation and infrastructure projects. This position supports senior engineers and project managers in overseeing construction activities, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct field inspections of active construction sites to monitor progress and verify adherence to plans, specifications, and regulatory standards.
- Document construction activities through detailed daily reports, photographs, and logs, highlighting both compliant and non-compliant work.
- Measure, calculate, and verify quantities of materials and work performed for progress payments and change order documentation.
- Interpret contract documents, blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to guide field operations and resolve discrepancies.
- Collaborate with contractors, project managers, and design teams to address field issues, recommend solutions, and support problem resolution.
- Assist in project scheduling using CPM (Critical Path Method) and support cost estimating, budget tracking, and change order preparation.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control checks on materials such as soil, concrete, bituminous mixes, and aggregates.
- Prepare technical reports, maintain project records, and contribute to as-built documentation.
- Support contract administration, including submittal reviews, RFIs (Requests for Information), and coordination with external stakeholders.
- Utilize engineering software including MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil3D, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for design support, data analysis, and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in construction engineering, with a focus on transportation, infrastructure, or civil site development projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods, materials, and civil engineering principles.
- Proficiency in CPM scheduling, cost estimating, and construction project management practices.
- Experience with field inspection, quantity surveying, and construction documentation.
- Strong working knowledge of industry-standard software: MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil3D, and Microsoft Office.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a commitment to accuracy, safety, and project excellence.
