Summary:
We are currently looking for a Lead Protection & Controls Engineer to work with a Leading US Turnkey Energy Solutions Company specializing in innovative service and equipment solutions for the energy industry worldwide. They have designed, built, and deployed numerous projects working collaboratively with EPC’s. Due to the exponential growth they have experienced, and with an ever-increasing pipeline of orders, they’ve decided to build their own integrated EPC team. As the Lead Protection & Controls Engineer, you will execute and lead technical work on their EPC projects for the substation group. In addition, you will collaborate closely with their integrated EPC team and clients to deliver high-quality, world-class solutions for our construction team.
The Lead Protection & Controls Engineer’s Responsibilities Will be:
- Lead electrical scope, budget, and schedule on assigned projects, including change management and client engagement
- Provide oversight for substation design and system integration, supporting the development of internal engineering capabilities
- Deliver and review complex electrical designs and analyses, including substation layouts, single lines, schematics, equipment sizing, and system studies
- Support technical documentation such as load lists, area classifications, equipment specs, data sheets, and bid evaluations
- Serve as Engineer of Record when required; ensure design compliance and technical accuracy
- Collaborate across EPC teams to resolve RFIs, review deliverables, and manage procurement-related engineering input
- Review vendor documentation to ensure conformance with technical specifications
- Mentor junior engineers, provide technical leadership, and foster high-performing team environments
- Drive standardization of engineering practices and documentation templates
- Identify opportunities for improving quality, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency
- Stay current with evolving technologies, tools, and industry standards
- Conduct and lead quality reviews for engineering deliverables
- Build credibility through technical expertise and consistent project execution
The Lead Protection & Controls Engineer's Qualifications Will be:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 6 years’ experience in substations, switchyards, or power generation
- Proficient in electrical design: grounding, single-line, schematics, motor control, and protection systems
- Strong skills in power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonics, grounding, etc.)
- Knowledge of high/medium/low voltage equipment and protective relay programming
- Familiar with ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NESC, API standards
- Effective communicator with experience managing scope, budget, and schedule
- Ability to multi-task and deliver under tight deadlines
- Skilled in mentoring, quality control, and process standardization
- Adaptable, collaborative, and safety-conscious
- Licensed Professional Engineer (desirable)
- Experience with relay software, SCADA/HMI systems (e.g., Studio 5000, FactoryTalk)
- Familiarity with Aconex and VMWare environments
- Understanding of construction, estimating, and procurement processes
- Exposure to client-side or owner’s engineer roles
- Active in professional industry organizations
