Job Overview

The Assistant Buyer plays a key role in supporting the Buying team in developing and managing a strategic, guest-focused product assortment across onboard retail shops. This role contributes to assortment planning, vendor management, sales analysis, and operational execution to deliver a world-class shopping experience to cruise guests.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to product selection and procurement across categories including beauty, apparel, handbags and accessories, liquor, jewelry, souvenirs, and travel essentials
• Analyze inventory levels, sales trends, and guest preferences to inform buying decisions and replenishment strategies
• Manage purchase order processes, including coordination of shipment schedules and inventory distribution across cruise ships
• Maintain accurate product data, pricing, and tracking within internal systems, ensuring data integrity
• Partner with suppliers and logistics teams to resolve order discrepancies and support on-time delivery
• Analyze sales reports and provide insights on product performance, identifying opportunities to optimize assortment and drive revenue
• Contribute to seasonal assortment planning, promotional initiatives, and visual merchandising alignment
• Collaborate cross-functionally with onboard retail teams, logistics, and operations to ensure seamless execution of initiatives
• Participate in vendor meetings, product reviews, and industry events, including occasional ship visits or trade shows as needed

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Business, Hospitality, or related field
• 2-4 years’ experience in a retail buying or merchandising role (cruise/travel retail a plus)
• Strong analytical and organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and retail systems
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working with international partners
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Interest in cruise guest behavior, global retail trends, and product innovation

Salary Range:

$75,000 – $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
