General Responsibilities
Reports to: Building Principal
Terms of Employment: Per the agreement between the Toutle Lake School District and the Toutle Lake Education Association, current compensation ranges from $55,314 to $112,564, depending on experience and education, increase for the 2026-27 school year TBD.
Essential Functions/Other Functions
- Plan, develop and implement courses of instruction designed to achieve essential learning and exit outcomes.
- Implement district adopted curriculum.
- Work cooperatively with administration and staff to develop and implement the instructional program.
- Provide an effective instructional environment.
- Maintain appropriate records.
- Teach the approved curriculum.
- Keep parents informed through conferences and/or reports of their students' progress.
- Develop and maintain a flexible, effective classroom learning environment.
- Work with students, staff, and community patrons in an amicable and productive manner.
- Provide for the supervision of students in the classroom and on the school premises as required.
- Work to develop in students a sense of consideration for others and of responsibility for contributing to the benefit of the school.
- Participate in professional growth opportunities.
Other Functions:
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the school administration, including participation in staff meetings, professional development, school events, and student supervision as needed.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- A valid Washington State teaching certificate.
- Bachelor's degree in Science Education, Secondary Education with a Science focus, or
Preferred Qualifications:
- Secondary Science Endorsement.
- Strong understanding of Secondary science curriculum, including earth, life, and physical sciences.
- Ability to design and implement engaging, hands-on science instruction and laboratory activities.
- Commitment to fostering scientific inquiry and critical thinking skills in young learners.
- Demonstrated strong skills and background in current trends, instructional methods and strategies in teaching
students. - Demonstrated strong skills and background in instructional methods including cooperative learning, questioning strategies, and concept development.
- Demonstrated evidence of effective classroom management skills.
- Demonstrated evidence of working successfully as part of a team.
- Knowledge of Common Core Standards and ability to integrate them into the classroom.
- Demonstrated ability to use formative, summative, and performance assessment strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to establish individual and subgroup, whole class, and grade-level/content area student growth
goals. - Demonstrated ability to use student growth or achievement data from multiple assessments to show clear evidence of growth for most students.
- Demonstrated ability to use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve student learning.
- Demonstrated willingness to work effectively with students, parents and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and modify instructional programs to meet individual needs.
- Demonstrated ability to help students apply all core academic concepts to daily living.
- Demonstrated successful experience working with middle and high school students.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
