- Wishram School District will have an opening for a Secondary Science Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year serving middle and high school students. Our school is in the town of Wishram, WA located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge on the banks of the Columbia River. Wishram is within close proximity to The Dalles, Oregon and Goldendale, Washington. This rural community offers an exception quality of life and a highly supportive school environment. Salary: Salary will be established according to the 2026–2027 certificated salary schedule, which is currently under development. Base salary is calculated on a 180-day contract and there are up to 9 additional days available above the base salary. Placement will be based on education and experience in accordance with district guidelines. The 2025-2026 Certificated Salary matrix range is $55,346–$104,319 (based on education and experience). Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement standards-aligned secondary science curriculum consistent with the Washington State K-12 Science Learning Standards (NGSS).
- Deliver engaging, inquiry-based instruction that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application.
- Establish and maintain a structured, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment.
- Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Maintain accurate student records and communicate effectively with families regarding progress and performance.
- Collaborate with administration and staff to support a cohesive instructional program and positive school culture.
- Supervise students in classroom and school settings to ensure safety and appropriate conduct.
- Participate in professional growth and continuous improvement activities.
Other Functions:- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:
- A valid Washington State teaching certificate.
- Secondary Science endorsement OR sufficient academic preparation to reasonably obtain endorsement within one (1) year of hire.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:- Knowledge of Washington State K-12 Science Learning Standards and the NGSS instructional framework.
- Ability to implement three-dimensional science instruction aligned with NGSS.
- Knowledge of effective instructional strategies for middle and high school learners.
- Skill in analyzing student data and using assessment results to improve instruction.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small, team-oriented school environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior experience teaching secondary science.
- Experience working in a small or rural school setting.
- Willingness to support extracurricular activities and student programs.
