Our client, the U.S.’s largest commercial real estate services firm, is seeking a Health, Safety & Environment Consultant to support operations within a data center environment in Ashburn, VA. This contract-to-hire role is ideal for an EHS professional who enjoys partnering with operational teams, building strong client relationships, and driving a culture of safety. The successful candidate will oversee environmental health and safety initiatives across the site while serving as a trusted resource to employees, leadership, and the client. Schedule is Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Oversee environmental health and safety activities for all data center operations from a safety and compliance perspective
- Serve as the primary EHS resource for employees, contractors, and client stakeholders
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and observations to identify risks and opportunities for improvement
- Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS programs, procedures, playbooks, and site-specific initiatives
- Evaluate existing safety programs to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and client expectations
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions
- Partner with operations teams to promote a proactive safety culture and support safe work practices
- Deliver EHS guidance and communicate safety requirements clearly to employees and client teams
- Coordinate and facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions as needed
- Support emergency preparedness initiatives, drills, and response planning activities
- Provide or coordinate CPR and First Aid training programs, or demonstrate a willingness to become qualified to lead these trainings
- Monitor EHS performance metrics and communicate updates to leadership and client stakeholders
- Travel occasionally to support training initiatives and business needs
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting related to EHS activities and compliance requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
- 5–8 years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety, industrial safety, facilities safety, or a related field
- Experience supporting safety programs within industrial, mission-critical, manufacturing, facilities, or data center environments
- Electrical knowledge or hands-on experience working around electrical systems is required
- Strong knowledge of safety principles, regulatory compliance requirements, and risk mitigation practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all organizational levels
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on multiple sources of information
- Strong organizational skills with a proactive and detail-oriented mindset
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous data center experience
- Experience delivering CPR, First Aid, or other safety-related training programs
- CPR/First Aid Instructor certification or willingness to obtain certification
- Experience facilitating group training sessions and presentations
- OSHA certifications or other EHS-related credentials
