Apply today and call Aileen at 888-303-5627 to connect with our recruiting team.Why You’ll Love This RoleJoin an organization that takes pride in building essential infrastructure while prioritizing sustainability and community impact.Be part of a team that values collaboration, continuous improvement, and integrity in every project.Use your analytical expertise to help deliver high-profile projects on time and on budget.Gain exposure to civil, utility, and renewable energy projects shaping California’s future.Work with a leadership team that invests in your professional growth and development.What You’ll DoOversee the full lifecycle of project cost accounting for civil, utility, power, and renewable construction work in California, including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, trucking, and rentals.Prepare clear, detailed job cost reports and variance analyses, including budget vs. actual, cost-to-complete, projected final cost, and margin for Caltrans, municipal, utility, and renewable projects.Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and schedules, ensuring P&L, balance sheet, WIP, and cash flow statements accurately reflect project and company performance.Maintain strict compliance with construction accounting standards (including percentage-of-completion), tax requirements, and internal policies across heavy civil, utility, and energy projects.Support internal and external audits by compiling documentation, job cost details, WIP support, and timely responses to inquiries.Identify and implement improvements to construction accounting processes, job cost workflows, and reporting to enhance accuracy and efficiency.Manage and participate in negotiations with key vendors and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms for infrastructure, electrical, and renewable project needs.Collaborate with procurement and project teams to review vendor agreements, monitor performance, and ensure all costs and commitments are accurately reflected in the job cost system.Mentor and guide junior accountants and project accounting staff, promoting consistent cost coding, WIP methodology, and reporting practices.Partner with project managers, estimators, and subcontractors to resolve financial issues related to change orders, claims, and revenue recognition.Assist with preparation and monitoring of project and company budgets, including updating forecasts based on cost trends across California projects.Provide thoughtful insights and recommendations to management on cash flow, forecasting, margin trends, and financial planning for California and West Coast operations.Leverage Sage and heavy job / job cost management systems to manage project data, support WIP reporting, and strengthen KPI and financial analysis, ensuring data integrity and optimal system use.Monitor adherence to financial controls, ethics and business conduct standards, and regulatory requirements, proactively correcting issues and standardizing practices across teams.To Be Successful in This Role, You’ll Bring10 years of progressive cost accounting experience in the construction industry, with significant exposure to heavy civil, utility, power, and/or renewable energy projects.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.Advanced knowledge of construction accounting, including job cost accounting, percentage-of-completion, and WIP reporting in a multi-project environment.Proven hands-on experience with Sage and heavy job or similar job cost management/ERP systems, along with advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, and complex formulas).Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and project management skills, with the ability to mentor accounting staff and influence cross-functional partners.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of turning complex job cost data into clear, actionable recommendations.Excellent communication, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with field operations, project management, estimating, and procurement.Experience negotiating contracts and securing favorable vendor pricing for infrastructure, utility, electrical, and renewable projects.Apply now and call 888-303-5627 to set yourself apart from the competition!
