DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs a wide range of complex and detailed accounting functions to support DBMHS operations. Ensures expenditure control and compliance with funding requirements, reporting standards, and applicable accounting procedures.
Reviews expenditure, personnel, and purchasing documents for funding availability, mathematical accuracy, and compliance with established accounting principles, policies, and objectives. Interprets accounting data to identify trends, variances, and deviations from standards.
Prepares accounting reports and financial statements, including detailed cost analyses, forecasts, and projections that reflect interrelationships among accounting data. Prepares journal entries, maintains complex ledgers, and develops detailed cost accounting information.
Reconciles and analyzes financial reports and budgets. Researches accounting issues and exercises independent judgment in both routine and non-routine decisions affecting DBMHS operations. Reviews accounting statements and reports generated from the Navajo Nation general ledger accounting system. Monitors compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Navajo Nation regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field; and One (1) year of accounting experience.

- Navajo Nation, federal, and state laws, regulations, and guidelines governing tribal accounting operations
- Accounting principles, theory, and practices, including governmental accounting
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Public relations and customer service principles and practices
- Computerized accounting systems and applications, including FMIS and Microsoft Excel
Skills:
- Preparing detailed and complex numerical computations and financial reports
- Developing and monitoring complex, multi-fund and multi-source budgets using automated spreadsheets and accounting systems
- Communicating technical accounting concepts effectively, both orally and in writing
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
