Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Represent the Navajo Nation in water rights adjudications before state and federal courts and administrative tribunals.
- Participate in settlement negotiations related to water rights matters.
- Provide legal representation and advice on all water rights issues affecting the Nation.
- Work closely with technical staff in the Department of Water Resources, other Navajo Nation programs, and external consultants and expert witnesses.
- Provide legal counsel to the Office of the President and Vice President, Office of the Speaker, Navajo Nation Council and its committees, and the Navajo Nation Water Rights Commission.
- Perform other legal duties as assigned to support water rights advocacy and protection.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD)
- Current admission to any U.S. state bar Intention of seeking and securing admission to the Navajo Nation Bar Association and either the Arizona, New Mexico, or Utah State Bar within one (1) year of hire

- Knowledge of federal Indian law and western water law
- Ability to manage multiple complex assignments in a fast-paced environment
