Role Summary

The Contract Manager is responsible for supporting the administration, execution, compliance, and commercial management of project contracts and subcontracts throughout the project lifecycle.

Working closely with the Project Lead, Project Manager, Cost Controller, Procurement Manager, Project Administrator, and other project stakeholders, the Contract Manager helps ensure contractual obligations are understood, documented, monitored, and properly administered.

The position plays a key role in contract controls, commercial correspondence, change management, risk identification, subcontract administration, and the prevention and resolution of contractual issues and disputes.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Administration

  • Manage and administer project contracts and subcontracts in accordance with agreed terms and conditions
  • Review contractual requirements and communicate key obligations to project stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate contract records, correspondence, notices, amendments, and supporting documentation
  • Monitor compliance with contractual deliverables, timelines, notice requirements, and other obligations
  • Support execution and administration of contract amendments and supplemental agreements

Subcontract Management

  • Support preparation, review, and administration of subcontract agreements
  • Coordinate with Procurement and Project Management regarding subcontract scope and commercial requirements
  • Track subcontractor contractual obligations and outstanding documentation
  • Assist with interpretation of subcontract terms and commercial requirements
  • Support resolution of scope, commercial, or contractual issues with subcontractors

Change & Claims Management

  • Support contractual administration of project changes
  • Review change events and assess contractual implications
  • Ensure required notices and documentation are issued within contractual timelines
  • Assist with evaluation of subcontractor change requests and claims
  • Maintain accurate records supporting changes, claims, and commercial decisions
  • Support preparation and response to contractual notices and claims

Commercial & Contract Risk

  • Identify potential contractual and commercial risks
  • Advise project leadership regarding contractual obligations and potential exposure
  • Support strategies to mitigate contract and subcontract risks
  • Monitor areas where scope, schedule, cost, or project conditions may create contractual implications
  • Escalate significant contractual matters to appropriate leadership

Dispute Prevention & Resolution

  • Help identify and address contractual issues before they develop into formal disputes
  • Maintain clear documentation supporting DEC’s contractual position
  • Assist with negotiations and resolution of subcontractor or project contractual issues
  • Support dispute-resolution activities where required
  • Coordinate with project leadership and external advisors when necessary

Project Coordination & Reporting

  • Work closely with Project Management, Procurement, Cost Control, and Administration teams
  • Maintain contract and commercial trackers
  • Provide updates on outstanding contractual matters, notices, changes, claims, and risks
  • Support project reporting and commercial reviews
  • Assist with contract closeout and final reconciliation activities

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Commercial Management, Quantity Surveying, Law, or a related discipline
  • Previous experience in construction contract administration, commercial management, procurement, project controls, or subcontract management
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and subcontract agreements
  • Experience with contract notices, changes, claims, scope interpretation, and commercial documentation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate contractual records
  • Strong written communication and ability to prepare professional contractual correspondence
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder-management skills
  • Ability to work effectively with project management, procurement, finance, subcontractors, and senior leadership
  • Familiarity with Procore or similar construction-management platforms is an asset
  • Experience within an EPC or General Contractor environment is preferred
  • Data center, mission-critical, industrial, or major commercial construction experience is considered an asset

DEC is looking for someone who can protect the company’s contractual position without creating unnecessary friction, maintain strong documentation, identify risks early, and work collaboratively with project teams to resolve commercial and contractual issues.
