Role Summary
The Site Planner supports site execution by translating the overall project schedule into practical short-term and look-ahead plans that can be effectively executed in the field.
Working closely with the Construction Manager, Lead Superintendent, Superintendents, Project Manager, Scheduler, Field Engineers, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders, the Site Planner helps coordinate work sequencing, identify constraints, track upcoming activities, and ensure crews have the information, materials, access, and prerequisites required to perform scheduled work.
This role is highly field-focused and plays an important part in connecting project scheduling with daily construction execution on a complex, mission-critical data center project.
Key Responsibilities
Short-Term & Look-Ahead Planning
- Develop and maintain detailed short-term construction plans and 2–6 week look-ahead schedules
- Translate master schedule activities into actionable field execution plans
- Coordinate upcoming activities with Superintendents, Field Engineers, subcontractors, and project teams
- Review planned work against actual field conditions and identify potential execution challenges
- Support daily and weekly planning meetings
Workface Planning & Coordination
- Help ensure work areas are ready before scheduled construction activities begin
- Confirm availability of drawings, materials, equipment, access, labour, inspections, and other prerequisites
- Coordinate sequencing between trades to minimize conflicts and interruptions
- Support planning by building, area, zone, system, or work package
- Assist field teams in establishing achievable daily and weekly production targets
Constraint Management
- Identify constraints that may prevent scheduled work from proceeding
- Maintain and update constraint logs and action trackers
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to resolve outstanding design, procurement, access, material, equipment, or documentation issues
- Escalate unresolved constraints that may affect schedule or productivity
- Track commitments and follow through until constraints are cleared
Schedule & Progress Coordination
- Work closely with the Schedule Manager and project leadership to align short-term field planning with the master project schedule
- Monitor field progress against planned activities
- Identify potential schedule impacts and communicate them to the project team
- Support recovery planning and resequencing when required
- Assist with collecting field progress information for schedule updates and reporting
Subcontractor Coordination
- Coordinate with subcontractors regarding upcoming activities, manpower, work areas, materials, equipment, and site requirements
- Participate in subcontractor planning and coordination meetings
- Review trade plans and ensure activities are aligned with overall site priorities
- Help identify trade stacking, access, sequencing, or interface concerns before they impact execution
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate planning trackers, look-ahead schedules, constraint logs, and progress records
- Prepare planning information for project and site meetings
- Support weekly reporting and progress reviews
- Document significant schedule or execution concerns requiring project-team attention
- Perform other planning and site coordination duties required to support successful project delivery
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Project Management, or a related technical field
- Previous experience in construction planning, field coordination, project coordination, scheduling, or site operations
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and field execution
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation
- Experience developing short-term or look-ahead construction plans is strongly preferred
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to identify constraints and coordinate resolution across multiple stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working closely with field teams and subcontractors
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other project-management tools
- Experience with Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar construction/project scheduling software is an asset
- Experience supporting data center, commercial, industrial, or other large-scale construction projects is considered an asset
