What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Litigation Associate position at Distinct | North America?
Senior Litigation Associate | Miami, Florida | $130,000 to $165,000
Some litigation roles look good on paper.
Then you join and realise the “supportive culture” means one partner who replies to emails at 11:47pm and a paralegal who is technically shared with seven other people.
This is not the pitch here.
I’m working on a Miami litigation role for an attorney who wants real medical malpractice and insurance defense work, but also wants to be around people who know what they are doing.
That part matters.
The team is looking for someone who can take ownership of files, argue motions, take depositions, handle mediations, and help shape strategy rather than just reacting to whatever landed in the inbox that morning.
Medical malpractice experience would be ideal.
If you have defended hospitals, physicians, healthcare providers, long term care facilities, or similar matters, that will help you get up to speed quickly. But strong insurance defense litigators from general liability, auto, premises, or broader civil defense work will also be considered.
This is probably right for someone who has got past the “I just need reps” stage.
You still want to learn, obviously. Good lawyers do.
But you also want to be trusted. You want client contact. You want to be in the room when strategy is being discussed, not just asked to tidy up the discovery responses afterwards.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll work across medical malpractice and wider insurance defense litigation matters.
That will include:
Case strategy
Depositions
Motions
Mediations
Research and written analysis
Client communication
Working closely with experienced litigators
Taking real responsibility on active files
You do not need to have seen every possible issue before.
Nobody has.
But you do need to be detail focused, calm under pressure, and comfortable being held to a high standard. In a fair way. Not in a “guess what I’m thinking” kind of way.
What they’re looking for
3 to 7 years of civil litigation experience
Florida Bar admission in good standing
Medical malpractice defense experience preferred
Strong insurance defense experience also considered
Ability to argue motions and take depositions
Good research, writing, and case analysis skills
Why it could be worth a conversation
Salary from $130,000 to $165,000
Miami office
Medical malpractice and insurance defense work
Good partner access
Real litigation responsibility
Strong team around you
Room to keep progressing without having to elbow your way through the place
Benefits package
If you are in a role where you are doing the work but not really developing, this could be a very sensible move.
Not glamorous. Sensible.
Sometimes that is better.
The apply button is not a marriage proposal. It is just a way to have a conversation.
