What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litigation Attorney, Premises Liability Defense position at Distinct | North America?
Litigation Attorney, Premises Liability Defense | Tampa, FL | $125,000 to $205,000 | General Liability (Premises Liability)
Better files, not more files. That's what most senior attorneys tell me they want when I ask what would make them move. After eight or more years in defense work, volume stops being impressive. What matters is whether the cases on your desk are worth your experience, and whether you're treated as the person who decides how they're run.
I'm Ryan Jaiswal at Distinct Recruitment, and this role is aimed squarely at that attorney: a senior premises liability lawyer for a Tampa insurance defense firm, at counsel level or close to it.
The cases
• Higher exposure premises liability matters: serious injury slip and falls, negligent security, dangerous condition and inadequate maintenance claims
• Commercial, retail, hospitality and multifamily clients who want an experienced lawyer on their important files
• First chair trial work, with associates supporting you
• Strategic calls on evaluation, experts and resolution, made by you and reported straight to the client
What comes with seniority
• Mentoring and supervising associates on your team
• Leading client relationships and reporting directly to carriers
• A voice in how the practice group runs
• A real conversation about partnership for the right attorney
The basics
• Florida Bar membership
• 8 years of litigation experience, with substantial general liability or premises defense work
• Trial experience and the confidence to lead a case from start to verdict
Terms of the role
• Hybrid, based in Tampa
• 1,900 billable hours a year
• $125,000 to $205,000, with the upper end very much intended for experienced counsel level attorneys
Why I think this is worth your time
Senior lawyers are often the most loyal people in a firm, which is one reason they get taken for granted. If you've been carrying more than your title suggests, training people, fixing difficult files and trying cases others didn't want, it's reasonable to ask what that's worth somewhere that will say so out loud. This role was opened for exactly that experience.
