Position Summary

The Second Grade Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing, faith-centered classroom environment that supports the academic, spiritual, and social development of students. The teacher integrates Catholic values and teachings into daily instruction while delivering a strong foundational curriculum in core subject areas.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies aligned with school and diocesan standards

• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs

• Use a variety of teaching methods and materials to promote active learning

• Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction accordingly

Faith Formation

• Incorporate Catholic teachings, values, and traditions into daily lessons and classroom life

• Lead students in prayer and participate in liturgical celebrations (e.g., Mass, sacraments, holy days)

• Model Christian behavior and promote a respectful, compassionate classroom community

Classroom Management

• Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment

• Promote good behavior, responsibility, and respect among students

• Communicate clear expectations and routines

Student Development

• Support students’ social and emotional growth

• Recognize individual student needs and collaborate with staff when additional support is required

Communication

• Maintain open, professional communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and behavior

• Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events

• Collaborate with colleagues, administration, and parish staff

Administrative Duties

• Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress

• Follow school policies and procedures

• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (Master’s preferred)

• Valid state teaching license (or ability to obtain)

• Practicing Catholic preferred (or willingness to support the mission of the Catholic Church)

• Knowledge of elementary education best practices

• Strong classroom management and communication skills
