Position Summary

This is a full-time, on-site Senior Project Engineer role based in Eagle, Idaho. The Senior Project Engineer assists the Project Manager in the planning, management, and execution of assigned construction projects and works under the direct supervision of the Project Manager (PM).

This position offers continued professional development in construction systems and financial management, project risk mitigation, negotiation strategies, contract language, and decision-making processes. The role supports the advancement of knowledge in construction means and methods.

The Senior Project Engineer may be assigned to support multiple projects simultaneously, working closely with one or more Project Managers, or may be given responsibility for a smaller project to independently demonstrate leadership and technical skills. The role is responsible for supporting project profitability, ensuring quality and safety standards, and meeting or exceeding owner expectations.

Qualifications & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of project estimates as requested.
  • Support the Project Manager in budget preparation and develop an understanding of budget management principles.
  • Organize and participate in pre-award and pre-construction meetings as directed. Develop competency in scope preparation to minimize risk and address scope gaps during negotiations.
  • Assist with subcontract negotiations and preparation of subcontract agreements. Develop proficiency in scope writing and detailed reviews to reduce risk and prevent scope omissions. Track buyout status and identify uncommitted costs.
  • Under the direction of the PM, develop scheduling skills using Microsoft Project, including understanding construction sequencing, milestones, and critical path development. Build and update project schedules as required.
  • Regularly evaluate and update project schedules in coordination with the superintendent, ensuring logical sequencing and accurate progress tracking.
  • Maintain current drawings, redlines, specifications, and all project documentation. Demonstrate strong document control and the ability to guide team members in proper documentation practices.
  • Manage submittal logs and review submittals across all scopes. Resolve conflicts efficiently and document changes resulting from the submittal process.
  • Become familiar with the Prime (Owner) Contract, including payment terms, change order procedures, schedule requirements, and notice provisions, and assist in proper implementation.
  • Support and manage the procurement process, coordinating delivery schedules with the project schedule and resolving site constraints with the superintendent. Verify timely delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Develop professional communication skills to maintain strong relationships with vendors, owners, architects, engineers, and local and state officials.
  • Participate in quality control processes, including submittal accuracy, documentation, and field inspections. Coordinate quality corrections with the superintendent and subcontractors.
  • Understand and enforce safety rules and regulations. Conduct site inspections when on-site and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Assist in project risk management planning by identifying potential risks, mitigation strategies, and associated impacts. Communicate effectively with stakeholders as needed.
  • Become familiar with local laws and regulations, including environmental requirements, site accessibility, noise ordinances, and SWPPP documentation.
  • Learn to review and interpret job cost reports and participate in monthly job cost and projection reviews. Develop skills in cost forecasting and financial strategy.
  • Quantify change order scopes and review owner and subcontractor change requests. Learn strategies for dispute resolution and claims management.
  • Assist in the development of Schedules of Values (SOV) and preparation of monthly client payment applications. Review subcontractor pay applications for accuracy in coordination with the PM and superintendent.
  • Review miscellaneous invoices for accounts payable approval under the direction of the PM.
  • Professionally lead project meetings and prepare, edit, and distribute meeting minutes, including OAC meetings, subcontractor planning sessions, and coordination meetings.
  • Participate in preconstruction operational strategy meetings, project kickoff meetings, and project closeout meetings as assigned.
  • Coordinate final project closeout activities, including owner training, attic stock and key turnover, as-built drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, and final change orders.
  • Assist in managing warranty processes and expediting resolution of warranty claims.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience with construction management software, including Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Project
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and efficient submittal review processes
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and schematics
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with architects, engineers, owners, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Familiarity with construction site operations, safety protocols, and environmental compliance
