Concrete Form Carpenter

Dex by Terra is hiring full-time concrete form carpenters in Hudson, MA.

We form footings, foundation walls, piers, columns, slabs, curbs and stairs across commercial and residential concrete work. The work is year-round, the pay is weekly, and there's overtime and snow work in the winter for anyone who wants it.

We're looking for carpenters who can take a set of structural drawings, lay it out, build it, brace it properly and stand behind it when the truck shows up.

What you'll do

• Lay out and build forms for footings, foundation walls, piers, columns, slabs, curbs and steps, working from structural drawings and grade stakes
• Set forms to line, grade, plumb, level and square — and check the critical dimensions against the prints before the pour is scheduled
• Build the right system for the pour, job-built or handset panels, and size sheathing, studs, walers and strongbacks to the work
• Brace for the actual pour rate, lift height and temperature — not by habit
• Install blockouts, keyways, embeds, anchor bolts, sleeves and waterstop, and work around the rebar
• Watch the forms during placement and call the pour if something starts to move
• Strip in the right sequence at the right time, without wrecking the concrete or the panels
• Clean, repair and stage form material so it gets used again
• Set screed rails and bulkheads, and hand off grade and joint information to the finishing crew

What we're looking for

• 5 years of concrete formwork. This is a seasoned position — we are not training someone into it
• Able to lay out and form a foundation on your own, from the benchmark through stripping
• You understand lateral concrete pressure and how pour rate, lift height and temperature change it
• Able to read structural and architectural drawings, footing and foundation plans, sections and rebar drawings
• Strong with saws, nail guns, drills and impact tools, and with levels, string lines, transits and lasers
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
• OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred

Nice to have

• Modular / handset panel system experience
• Excavation competent-person qualification
• Experience directing a forming crew
• Portuguese or Spanish alongside English

Being straight with you about the work

You've been doing this five years or more, so none of this will surprise you. Heavy panels and lumber, 50 lbs, often overhead or at an awkward angle. Work in and around open excavations and at height — we use trench protection and fall protection and nobody goes into an unprotected excavation. Outdoors in all weather, and pour days run on the concrete schedule, which means early starts and long days when that's what it takes. We're saying it up front so nobody's first week is a surprise.
