Concrete Finisher

Dex by Terra is hiring full-time concrete finishers in Hudson, MA.

We do commercial flatwork — slabs, warehouse floors, sidewalks, curb — and residential driveways, patios, walkways and steps, including stamped, colored and exposed aggregate work. The work is year-round, the pay is weekly, and there's overtime and snow work in the winter for anyone who wants it.

We're looking for experienced finishers who have 5 or more years of experience who can be handed a pour and trusted with the timing of it.

What you'll do

• Place, screed and strike off to grade, slope and elevation
• Bull float, then call the timing on every pass that follows
• Float, trowel and finish to spec — power trowel, broom, float, exposed aggregate, stamped, colored or burnished
• Edge and cut or tool control joints to the layout, inside the working window
• Set, check and strip forms; verify layout, elevations and drainage before the pour
• Cure and protect the work — compound, blankets, protection from weather and traffic
• Check the mix against the ticket and speak up about concrete that isn't right before it goes down
• Walk the slab before you leave and fix what needs fixing

What we're looking for

• 5 years finishing concrete flatwork. This is a seasoned position — we are not training someone into it
• Able to run the finish on a pour start to finish without supervision, and to call the timing yourself when conditions are working against you
• Fully proficient with screeds, bull floats, hand floats, trowels, edgers, groovers and power trowels
• Able to read site plans, grade stakes and joint layouts, and to set a joint layout
• Solid on curing, jointing and crack control — and why timing drives all three
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
• OSHA 10, or willingness to get it

Nice to have

• Decorative work — stamped, colored, exposed aggregate, burnished
• Ride-on trowel and laser screed experience
• Experience directing other finishers and laborers on a slab
• Portuguese or Spanish alongside English

Being straight with you about the work

This is hard, physical work outdoors in all weather. You'll be on your knees a lot, lifting 50 lbs, and in regular contact with wet cement — we provide the PPE and we expect you to use it. Hours follow the pour, not the clock: some days start early, some days you wait, and some days you finish into the evening because a slab can't be left. If that's the trade you already know, you'll be fine here.
