This position is located at the DMV Headquarters in Sacramento.
Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager I, the Information Technology Specialist II (ITS2) will serve as project technical manager and expert-level team lead in the design, deployment, and maintenance of complex IT systems, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security across the department's vital 24x7 infrastructure. Core responsibilities include architecting, developing, implementing, and maintaining software systems. The ITS2 collaborates with teams on cloud development using DevOps methodologies, optimizes database and system performance, and maintains current documentation for system configurations. This position involves designing and recommending innovative solutions to support the installation, configuration, and ongoing administration of IT systems, enhancing efficiency, security, operability, and reliability across various technology platforms. As a lead, the ITS2 will provide mentoring, training, and supporting staff in best practices, new technologies, and software development techniques. Additionally, job duties involve strategizing and integrating efforts in vendor and contract support, including developing, reviewing, and approving Statements of Work (SOW) for vendor engagements, as well as leading procurement activities and contract renewals, ensuring compliance with state regulations and policies, with a focus on securing technology solutions that satisfy the organization's hardware, software, and security needs.

Part-time telework available. Telework requires California residency. This position offers hybrid telework opportunities; however, telework arrangements are subject to change at any time based on State & departmental operational needs. Employees may be required to report to the office as necessary.
This position is located at the Sacramento DMV Headquarters at 2415 First Avenue, Sacramento, California, 95818. DMV operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position has core work hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m weekdays. Weekends, long and/or irregular hours, after-hours work, holiday work, and overnight travel may be required. This position is required to carry a DMV-issued cell phone and required to be reachable outside of normal business hours. Telework available. Telework requires California residency. This position may be required to occasionally report to the designated office location in DMV Headquarters. Travel expenses related to reporting to the designated office is the employee's own responsibility and is not eligible for reimbursement.
