UNARMED CAMPUS SECURITY OFFICER
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Director of Security
COORDINATES WITH: Facilities Team, Director of Operations, Emergency Response Personnel, School Administration, Law Enforcement
WORK HOURS: 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm M-F during the academic year when school is in session
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The Campus Unarmed Security Officer provides a proactive, visible security presence to ensure the safety and security of all Denver Christian School students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role supports the school's mission of maintaining a safe learning environment through vigilant campus monitoring, emergency response coordination, and the implementation of established security protocols. The position works independently under the direction of the Director of Security and requires sound judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to respond effectively to dynamic situations while maintaining professional relationships across the school community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Campus Safety & Surveillance
- Conducts campus-wide surveillance by patrolling school buildings and grounds in all weather conditions
- Monitors security cameras and visitor access points to ensure facility safety and building security
- Observes and reports unusual behavior or activities that may pose a risk to campus safety
- Provides a consistent, visible security presence to deter crime and disruption
Emergency Response & Crisis Management
- Executes all emergency response plans independently and supports the Director of Security and emergency personnel in handling emergencies and disruptive situations
- Applies de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques to manage verbal or physical conflicts
- Maintains composure and professionalism during high-stress situations and emergencies
- Assists in coordinating emergency response efforts in collaboration with police and emergency services
Event Support & Traffic Control
- Develops and supports operational plans for large campus events, athletic events, and extracurricular activities
- Assists facilities team with event logistics and setup as needed
- Conducts traffic control and parking enforcement on campus grounds
- Coordinates security coverage for campus events
Documentation & Reporting
- Generates detailed written documentation and incident reports of all security concerns and events
- Maintains accurate records and logs of security activities and observations
- Provides timely communication to Director of Security regarding security matters
Community & Relationships
- Establishes and maintains positive professional relationships with students, staff, families, and the public
- Serves as a visible, approachable security presence that supports a safe learning environment
- Communicates effectively with campus community members
Operational Support
- Works independently with minimal supervision while maintaining strong communication with supervisory staff
- Participates in assigned trainings and professional development days
- Supports security-related duties outside regularly scheduled hours as needed
- Remains flexible and responsive to evolving campus security needs
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Previous police, military, or security experience
- Valid driver's license with motor vehicle record meeting established standards
- First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)
- Ability to walk and patrol inside and outside in all types of weather conditions
- Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies and high-stress situations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Basic computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Google Docs, and Calendar
- Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds
- Must pass background check and psychological screening
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification
- Valid CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) permit or certification
- Advanced training in de-escalation or conflict resolution
- Experience with security camera systems or building monitoring technology
- CPR certification in addition to First Aid
