Assistant Track Coach
Sport: Track – Shot Put
Location: Deer Park High School
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
To provide knowledge, motivation, and leadership in an activity in which the student can excel to full potential while competing in an atmosphere that adds to total education, including physical well-being, moral character, and social and mental development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instruct student-athletes in proper shot-put techniques, including grip, stance, glide/rotational mechanics, release, and follow-through
- Ensure proper setup, inspection, and maintenance of the shot-put throwing area, including circle surface, toe board, sector lines, and landing area
- Emphasize and enforce safety procedures specific to throwing events, including controlled throwing environments, athlete spacing, and safe retrieval of implements
- Instruct athletes regarding the techniques, rules, and safety practices of the sport
- Collaborate with the Head Coach and other event coaches to support overall track and field program goals and athlete development. Supervise athletes from the scheduled beginning of the practice or game until the last athlete is picked up, knowing where all participants are at all times
- Supervise athletes on buses on trips to other schools
- Promotes the entire interscholastic program of the school and directs the program in harmony with the total school program
- Sets an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct, including respecting and supporting contest officials
- Fosters among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community
- Promotes a healthy lifestyle to student-athletes
- Adheres to all safety laws and district policies
- Follows the injuries, care, and prevention procedures of the Deer Park School District
- Reports on injuries to the Head Coach and Athletic Director
- Recognizes and adheres to any athlete's health plans
- Communicating with parents in a timely, proactive, and professional manner

- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach/ Athletic Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 19 or older for Assistant Coach and 21 or older for Head Coach per WIAA rules
- Must have a current First Aid/CPR certification or be able to acquire it by the start of the season
- Understand the activity/sport, its safety practices, techniques, rules, and progression of skill development
- Previous applicable coaching experience preferred
- Demonstrated successful experience building relationships with players, parents, and the community is required
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrate a positive attitude toward students and the ability to motivate them toward developing a successful program
- Be able to consistently meet schedule responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities
- Ability to plan practices, events, and organize all the necessary materials and people to carry out the activity
- Ability to develop players toward goals of improved skills, knowledge of the game, leadership, and commitment to the team
- Ability to work with students, colleagues, parents, and officials in a positive, professional, and equitable manner

Terms of Employment and Salary:
25-26 Stipend: $ 3,437-$5,060 per season, depending on experience.
