Position Overview
DECAdance Competition is seeking reliable, energetic, and adaptable Event Personnel to support the successful execution of our dance competitions. This role is multifaceted and hands-on, requiring team members to assist with event load-in and setup, float between key operational areas during the event, and support breakdown at the conclusion of the competition.
Event Personnel play a critical role in maintaining a professional, organized, and positive environment for dancers, studios, staff, and spectators.
Event Schedule Expectations
- Most events load in on Thursday or Friday prior to the competition weekend
- The majority of events break down and load out on Sunday
- A limited number of smaller events may load out on Saturday evening
- Daily schedules may include early mornings and extended hours
Key Responsibilities
Event Setup & Breakdown
- Load in competition equipment, signage, merchandise, and supplies
- Assist with stage, awards, and front-of-house setup
- Support end-of-event breakdown and load-out of all materials
Event Operations (Floating Role)
- Rotate between assigned areas as needed throughout the day, including:
- Merchandise sales and customer assistance
- Security support (monitoring doors, crowd flow, and restricted areas)
- Awards preparation (organizing awards, assisting backstage, staging awards ceremonies)
- Provide general event support to staff, judges, and directors
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned areas
Customer Experience & Professional Conduct
- Serve as a friendly, helpful point of contact for studios, dancers, and families
- Enforce event policies professionally and respectfully
- Represent the DECAdance brand with professionalism at all times
Pay & Growth Opportunities
- Load-in and load-out shifts are paid hourly, with rates based on experience and responsibilities
- Competition days are paid at a day rate, determined by role, experience, and length of event day
- Opportunities for increased pay rates based on performance, reliability, and tenure
- Room for growth into lead event staff, department leads, and core touring staff roles
- Long-term team members may receive priority scheduling and expanded responsibilities
Qualifications
- Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment (up to approximately 40–50 lbs)
- Comfortable working long event days, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to adapt quickly and remain calm in a fast-paced environment
- Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience in event staffing, dance competitions, live events, or hospitality
- Retail or merchandise sales experience
- Crowd management or security-related experience
Physical & Work Requirements
- Extended periods of standing and walking
- Frequent lifting, bending, and moving equipment
- Ability to work indoors at event venues with varying noise levels
