Introduction
The Pathways to Public Service Program is an initiative that strengthens the pipeline of diverse talent from local colleges and universities into District government roles. The program is designed to provide 12-month public service apprenticeships, professional mentorship, and direct hiring pathways for participants into full-time government employment. Participants gain practical skills and mentorship, while employers benefit from a pipeline of early-career talent, fresh ideas, and coordinated support from DOES and DCHR.
This position is located in the Department of Employment Services (DOES), Office of Youth Programs (OYP). The DOES Office of Youth Programs is responsible for providing workforce development programs and services to District youth between the ages of 9-24. The mission of the DOES Office of Youth Programs is to prepare District youth for the workforce and to connect them to opportunities. Incumbent provides comprehensive workforce development services to youth, including career counseling, training facilitation, job readiness support, and placement assistance.

Researches and prepares pertinent data incidental to special projects and ongoing programs of the office. Serves as liaison between the supervisor and departmental employees. Provides timely, accurate, and current information to them and other appropriate officials concerning required reporting requirements. Coordinates the submission of a variety of reports and data (i.e., progress, status and fiscal reports) to ensure fulfillment of established program requirements. Reconciles monthly reports in an automated data management system, when necessary. Receives telephone calls and visitors to the office. Ascertains the nature of call or business of visitors and determines appropriate action. Responds to a variety of inquiries not requiring technical knowledge and refers other inquiries to appropriate office staff or to other organizations, as required.
Receives and screens incoming correspondence and determines appropriate action. Determines those that can be acted upon personally and takes necessary action. Refers correspondence requiring supervisor's attention to supervisor, or other appropriate staff person. Maintains control records on incoming correspondence and action documents and follows up on work in process to ensure timely reply or action. Prepares reports as required by supervisor on a variety of issues. Prepares, receives, reviews, and verifies office documents. Maintains office records, locates and compiles data/information from files for the development of reports. Keeps a project calendar and informs staff of deadlines, other important dates, and similar administrative support work.

Incumbents of this position are subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC personnel regulations. Accordingly, incumbents must successfully pass a criminal background and consumer credit check as a condition of employment and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks for the duration of their tenure:

Qualifications

- College graduate with a bachelor’s degree in either December 2025 or May 2026.
- Commit to being a resident of the District of Columbia within 180 days.
